I was just flicking through the heroes section of the army list and then I saw the points costs for Chakax and Gor-Rok. I am not planning on fielding either (not yet, anyway), I am only just starting. However, I couldnt help but think that if Gor-Rok is 185pts, then surely 270 for Chakax is overpriced? I would think they are pretty even, maybe Gor-Rok slightly better. So the fact that Chakax is nearly a hundred points more expensive came as a bit of a surprise to me.
Anyone like to explain why, or point out something blatantly obvious that I have somehow missed?

    They are both over priced.

Maybe GW felt like they made up for it with tetto

i think gor-rok is ok for it's price: AS 2+, rerollable to hit rolls, PF on 5+, stubborn, +1 toughness compared to normal scar vets, no KB against him, dangerous terrains test if enemies charge him.

Scar vet + crown of ommand + light armor + enchanched shield = 129 pts

So you are paying 56 points for rerollable to hit rolls with pf on 5+ (often 6 attacks in total, +2 if compared to a normal scar vet), +1 toughness, no KB, dangerous terrains. Not overpriced at all in my opinion, but often a cowboy is more versatile.

I agree on chakax: he's overpriced and quite useless IMO

Gor Rok is solid at 185.
He's got +1 toughness, 2+ armor, ignores killing blow, heroic killing blow and multiple wounds special rules on a 2+, he's stubborn, and get PF on a 5+, and re-rolls to hit.

It's a lot more than 105 points of stuff (over a normal scar vet), and all of it is useful.

That last line was posting help from my 2 year old. Got to love it.

I agree with Gor-Rok being a pretty solid character for the points cost.

I believe the reason Chakax is more expensive is the ability to grant a Temple Guard unit he joins the Unbreakable rule. Sadly, Chakax is still a sub par close combat character that would (ironically) not survive long in close combat.

Hm, i thought, that Gor-Rok have 1+, not 2+ AS, cause his mace is a hand weapon. No?

Not sure what you mean by that, as Hand weapons dosnt give + to armour.

    his AS is

    4+ Scaly skin
    combined with
Shield of the Aoens which grants 2 points of armour, which makes it a 2+.

I am guessing here, sry if its off:
are you referring to the 6+ parry save granted by Hand Weapon and Shield?
if that is the case, 2 things most be set clear to you :) (again, sorry if this isnt what you meant)

first: the parry save is a ward-save, and dosnt have anything to do with his armour save.
second: magical weapons cant be used to make a parry save (I dont get the logic but that is the rules.)

In 7th edition, if you combined a Shield (magical or not) with a non-magical hand weapon, you would receive an additional +1 to your armor save in CC (over the +1 for having a shield).

No longer the case in 8th, as Phatmotha-phucka pointed out.

Perhaps some edition slur by yourself or the one who taught it to you? Happens all the time. :D

Gor-Rok is a great special character I dint feel he is ovprised at al.

I field him every time I can and he usually puts between 4 and 5 wound towards combat res

Dont forget he makes people take dangerous terrain tests, makes your unit stubborn and is immune to multiple wounds.

That being said if you could put all of those abilities on a scarbet he would definately cost more
