AoS appears to be a loose Warmachine/KoW ruleset mash-up with GW miniatures. 8th may have its flaws but with proper community based FAQ's, it'll still be an awesome, diverse game system to play with in future years. AoS COULD become a good game system, but it needs a lot more work than this 4 page rulebook and "Battlescroll" mechanic to get there.

If I beat a new (or any) player, I want it to be because I outplayed them, not because I have a bigger army. That won't make me feel like a veteran, it'll make me feel like a douche.

What happens if one player puts down five high ranking models with thirty-three wounds between them?
(All carnosaurs and stegs or salamanders...)

But the other player puts down 35 one wound models?
    (Brett peasant archers...)

Does the player with the big, tough models (out numbered 35 to 5) choose the sudden death rule to use?

I am really lost in the void now
This is all baffling, too much info for my skull to handle without crashing. I will just wait till tomorrow and do the daily ask for the manager, he was down HQ Sunday.
As a good note my boyfriend hasn't said anything yet, I think he has been too tired or busy playing games to notice.

I just have all hope in the main rule book to be amazing so it can encourage veterans to play happily, saves my boyfriend cursing every step. Plus if the older models are compatible, I have so many models and it may persuade me to finish up my Tomb Kings army.

I really have to disagree with you NIGHTBRINGER, I can certainly think of far worse changes to the game so "as bad as it could be" really doesn't stick for me. I don’t think it's a really bad system, even if quite different. Of course I do have some issues, namely its "unbounded" nature and that its simplicity seems reductive in contrast to 8th.
I'll definitely be giving it a go, I imagine I'll only be able to manage a fully informed judgement once I play it.

Hopefully there will be a more in-depth version released. If not then yes, I will be disappointed. However I'm certainly not considering sticking with 8th/completely moving on until then.

    As always, time will tell.

For now everyone please remember to chill your beans.

English isn't my first language, but thanks. Why wouldn't I want to/like to build lists?

That's fine, but I think most people are pissed because this doesn't have anything to do with warhammer. It could've perfectly well have been a game on the side kinda like Mordheim. May AoS be fun? Perhaps, but it's nothing like what most people (who actually enjoyed 8th edition) wanted. People aren't solely pissed because of the apparent balance issue, but because this is so far far away from what people actually wanted.

Dont think anybody wins with AoS. I'll give it till August before I completely write it off but thats just because I'm playing ETC/8th until then anyway.

Uh oh, don't make me roll battleshock.

Presumably the yes side as they'd generate more attacks, although given they're not really statistically significant then maybe the two sides just wiped each other out, leaving only some confused Sigmarines.

It all came down to find a mutual consensus on how to play the game, which was to be deduced from the wording of the rules at the time.
Given that the game changed and the rulebook probably also did, you can hardly say anyone "won" or "was right" as the entire premise of the conflict is made void.
Remember, the discussion was never about the intention but rather the wording of the rule.

I know you probably said it without any intention of actually getting a serious answer, but the above needed to be said before anyone wobbles out a stinky and intellectually degrading "TOLD YOU SO!!"

WITH THAT REMOVED FROM MY CHEST

I am kinda curious about how this came plays out!
I think those mechanics looks rather cool and pretty simple for a couple of games, and I am looking forward to try it!
The keywords most CERTAINLY is a MAJOR improvement. Now rules like the dragon ogres "we get boosted by lightning attacks (uuhm, could you yourself define what a lightning attack is?)" are way easier to make!

"Whenever this unit gets hit by a something that contains the keyword lightening it gets X-bonus".

    and a rant :D

I think the entire "WHERE IS THE BALANCING FACTOR?!!??" debate is ridiculous and ruled by immediate input (meaning: NO thoughts are given).
Its right there in the starter set!!
Those warscrolls is for the starter set! is for the starter set! is for the starter set!
There is a limited amount of models in the box!
Which are meant to play the scenario from the opening story which is in the novel that is being released at the same date.

Just like when you play one of the scenarios from the End Times books, the rooster is made for you!
Did anyone go "duh whats to keep me from bringing 5 Nagashes?" :D honestly! THINK! :D

When the game opens up OUTSIDE THE STARTER SET I will bet you that there is a clearer restriction on army composition, or OTHER variable to have impact on it.

    for the last part:

I dont think this is 9th ed.
I think its a standalone game.
if I am wrong, its still seems WAY better than most of the gloomy rumours indicated.

I am actually looking forward to try this!
Especially since I can play my guys as whatever the F I want!
"hmmm, today my Saurus are going to beeee.......Plaguebearer! *downloads and prints the warscroll*
"and i'd like my krox to go out and do some kicking...they can be Beasts of nurgle! *Download, print*"

    "But Mr. Phat"
    "
Yes other voice in my head?"
"Couldnt you just do that before, and just do count as armies?"
"Yes, but now its WAY easier as my opponent will NEVER get confused due to the warscroll being just by the unit".
"I see.......this give me an idea"
    "
    Yes other Phat?"
"We could convert one of our 5 carnosaurs to have removable wings, and play it as bloodthirsters or chimaeras"
    "
I LIKE THE WAY WE THINK OTHER PHAT!
"ME TOO!...even though its mildly disturbing"
"Naah, no one else interesting enough to talk with anyway"
"You got me there...lets go and play the 'Functional Citizen Game'"
"oh I do enjoy that one"
"You cant spell Functional without Fun!"
    "
    OH YOU!!!"

I don't know guys, after reading the rules, the game looks like it'll be pretty fun. Just saying.

Why can't we all just agree that when play Age of Sigmar we won't be a douche and run 50 deamon princes? I mean who is going to play a second game with a person who plays that way? Nobody. So why be so upset over it?

If there aren't rules, the line will blur and friendships will be tarnished.
I am already bitter playing my friends fully comped Dwarf-artillery line :D
Besides, whos to say that there isn't a mechanic outside the starter set that prevents you from doing something like this?

Three things bother me with AoS...
    1. Simplicity - it seems GW turned my game of chess into a game of pin the tail on the donkey
    2. Unbound - this ruins the backdrop of the game for me. I like the idea of the individual flavors of separate armies. Plus an army looks good on the battlefield, while a random collection of varied miniatures will not.
    3. No points system - this is absolutely ripe for abuse... and mark my words, the abuse will happen. Honestly, I'm having a hard time believing that there isn't some sort of control set in place. Even after all that GW has done, I can't believe they would do this... there has to be something we're missing. If not, the game is pretty much ruined right then and there.

Some random Spanish guy quoted on warseer have stated that we'll see more (something else), but right now GW is pushing AoS. Someone else mentioned that we'd see different games of which one was called "Age of Steel" or so.

Could all very likely be made up like all the other rumours.

I truly hope that AoS isn't all we get. The problem is that with GW's tight lipped control of information we probably won't know for certain for quite some time.
