    Breakdown:
16 Coldone characters an average of one per army proving that the comp on them was hard.
7 Tetto'eko's and 6 Lord Kroaks showed up.
Counting Kroak a whooping total of 23 Slann showed up to party. Almost 1.5 slann per army! Thankfully nobody was mad enough to take triple slann so it was an even split between single and double level 4.
Out of 17 slann who could pick a lore, 5 went loremaster high, 7 for all the sigs and the remaining five split three - two on light and death.

One poor bloke rocked up with saurus warriors and another has the only unit of krox. Core is all skinks all the time (bar the lonely unit of saurus) with 0 skrox units.

The dinosaurs seem to be truly extinct as one bastilodon was the only monster that survived to make it to the tournament across 16 lists.

Nobody ran double TG but 11 people took one unit to hold the line. Only 4 people ran without a combat block.

Last years(and a couple of previous years) high scorer returns with the lustrian airforce, Stanislaw is bringing 15 rippers but with only 5 flyers the airforce is looking a bit smaller than last year.(budget cuts for more bling for slanns).

4 magic carpets were imported for oldbloods and they seem to come with a free 4++.

2 people were brave enough to leave a scroll behind(both had kroak) but 4 of us needed two crutches to walk. 7 players decided that rerolls weren't just for elves and took becalming. 2 took double scroll and becalming because magic is only fun if one player gets to cast spells.(or we wanted to play dwarfs secretly.)

man, some of those are magic heavy - slann, kroak & tetto in the same list is... extreme.

do they use some sort of alternate magic rules?

Actually the magic rules are even stricter, max 5 dice to cast, max 4 on death, max 2 extra dice above the winds roll and max 12 per phase. The reason for the loads of magic is the playstyle of going for small wins and minimizing risk to enable a consistent solid team win. Magic is low risk(you cant be hit back) and high reward(easy to pick up 450-600 points with magic over 6 turns) with safe units(few units want to charge kroakguard)

Kind of makes me sad that there's only one person with any Saurus Warriors - A single unit of 36.
I know their not competitive in their vanilla state, but still.....

Well they're a pretty depressing read.

So much magic and skink chaff and so SO many points spent on characters (I've said it before and I'll say it again 50% Lords and 50% Heroes is total bobbins and means no one bothers with an actual army anymore :( )

Fair play to the Ripperdactyl chap and the guy who took Saurus, but otherwise a pretty damning indictment of the army book in terms of internal balance.
(I know ETC rules will skew this a lot too, but my point still stands)

In fairness, 2/3 core units show up in numbers( you dont see people bemoaning the lack of HE spears or seaguard), same with 4/9 special and 2/3 rare(I refuse to acknowledge the trollololloldon). All our heroes are viable and 2 good special characters. We could have it a lot worse. There isnt a single book where every unit/character is viable and having 7/0 duds to 9/5 is pretty good for a mid tier book.

Pretty much what was to be expected. Kroak seems to be quite solid choice for a double slann list. It's actually nice to see the double frog coming back from the old book. :D

What I'm actually is a bit surprised is the number of Tetto'ekos in the field. The guy is so hard comped but maybe he'll pull his weight regardless.

it might just be me, but from the standard comp then the list down under would be illeagal. since Slann + kroak + tetto is 6 points

I think it's sad that no one took any big dinos (especially carnosaurs).

It seems I play the Lizardmen differently

I love using them big dinosaurs! I like taking at least 2 stegadons and a unit of terradons. I do admit that the carnosaur often takes a backseat in most lists since the slann is considered the signature Lord option. My last time using a carnosaur, the Oldblood was one-shot KO'd by a Warp Lightening Cannon and the Carnosaur whimpered over the body of its master and then being shot to death in the next turn o_O. It was funny but unhelpful change of events that cost me losing 1/4 of my army in a 2000 point game.

    Cannons.... Enough said.

That being said, I run stegs, bastis and sometimes a Carno. Loving the little guys atm, so I am usually running 2 razordons and a couple of sallies.

Yeah, I guess cannons is the problem, but I still think it is doable. If you can cram some Chameleons, Terradons or something in, or a Skink Priest with the heavens sig.

Lore Of Heavens is a must when going up against war machines, even the comet would ruin an artilleryman's day :)

Yeah, actually tried that and destroyed 3 cannons with the comet.

So it's doable, just risky I guess?

Even if the big monsters are almost autolose against cannons I think the more reason of not taking them is in the armylists themselves. When looking at them they easily have 1000-1200 points in heroes, add in 600 points of core and 400-450 points of temple guard and you find yourself in well over 2000 points already. There is not much room to include any bigger monsters anymore.

This on the other hand is from the reason that as this is team tournament the goal is to get yourself a favourable matchup where these kinds of tailored lists do well. Although in my opinion I could run almost any of those lists as all comers against any of the armies. This is actually also one of the reasons why I like LM so much as they are quite well rounded army and can put up a fight against everything. Granted they will struggle more against some than others.

Most lizardmen lists under ETC are designed to be all comers with one, maybe two bad matchups(Morghast heavy tomb kings for example). Frequently I get thrown down first and have to pick a matchup based on what everybody else on the team doesn't want to play. Hence most of the lists are built for points denial.

As for the monsters or lack there of, the answer is efficiency. Very few ETC lists are take what looks cool, they are honed to use the most cost efficent tool for the job. Cold one characters deal more damage(90% of the time), have a smaller base, are faster, cost less and are more survivable. They also introduce the most haed think in ETC, risk. Where consistent 12/13 points a game will win the event and 7+ other people are relying on you to do your job anything which can swing a game big better have a massive pay off or it's just not worth it. Our monsters just dont fit the risk/reward profile needed for high level play where you cant afford losing 2+BP to a single cannonball.

I think its still very useful in attempting to "snipe" out Characters in regiments since the models under the template are the ones forced to take the wound. However, I'm not entirely sure how "Look out, sir!" works against template attacks where all immediate models surrounding a character are hit, wounded, and possibly slain by the attack.
