@Bowser Thanks man, I'm really proud of my basing, I have so much fun making these. Finishing the eyes is either a very satisfying brush stroke or a very disappointing one, haha. Everyone I consulted really liked the purple, but I felt it was too dark. As a novice, I really like discovering new techniques and mixing stuff up. So, as I like the lighter tone of the Skinks on the right and the purple too, I just started to mix - something I rarely do. Same with the washes, coming up with a suitable purple wash (Drakenhof & Carrobourg mixed, added in some watered down white paint) was really challenging for me, but fun. So, this is the result!
I think you nailed it with this lighter purple. It's got this muted vibrancy to it. And the dynamic of the head and scales and the rest of the body works brilliantly! Once again the bases blow me away as they look great but blend with the model seamlessly. Looks so natural.
This is turning into a spam-fest, but I'm really pushing out these Skinks as fast as I can. Firstly, following @Bowser's advice, I went with a Skink Chief: I took the Steg chief and placed him on a base. I love the giant spear and his "come at me bro" pose. Hard to get a clear photo with the black, but I'm looking forward to painting this one. I'm not entirely sure what colors he'll get, I really want him to stand out. Might be a golden lizard, who knows (it won't be, haha). Next batch of 10 Skinks, bringing up my tally to 30 after this. One more set of 10 to go after these!
They all look excellent!! Love your bases and the light purple scheme! Go for it!! And more pictures, I like this kind of spam! Edit: One question, do you pin your skinks to the rocks or just glue them?
As the desert eagle soars, he sees a full patrol of skinks below. In front stands Al'abyad, the White One, a single spawn Skink leading his kin through the desert sands. I have to admit, some are rushed. I just wanted to get them out, so I didn't do them all as neatly as I wanted. But still, for your viewing pleasure! On a side note, I'm starting my first 40K army and tried a completely different theme!
Thanks for inspring me in this one, I really like how they scheme turned out. I finished my Slann Starmaster (Suhulia) and am now starting my Ripperdactyls. Painting wings is a nightmare, so I'm practicing on Tyranid Gargoyles, to see what my options are! Any tips?
Alright, this is my army for tonight's game! I hate using unfinished models, but I'm going with it. Slann with Guard (unfinished) The Ripperdactyls (unfinished, highly dissatisfied with their look now) The Engine of the Gods and Skink Starpriest (unfinished) 40 Skink Boltspitters (10 unfinished)
At least one can see that you are doing something with your army paintingwise! And that takes time... And if people see your finished work I bet they won't complain about the rest! I understand your personal frustration, though.
Your army is spectacular man ! You really put thought and effort into it and you got a literally unique result ! This is an awesome army. Kudos !
Thanks man! Also, painting Ripperdactyl Wings is a poopy. Oh god do I dread doing this right now, haha.
I'm watching this thread but hadn't seen updates for it in awhile, you're army is by far one of the most cohesively painted I've seen I really love that Slann and they are an impressive. Such a nice army keep it up
