Hi! I'm Leander, 37 years old and from Austria! Steam: LeanderAT I love board and computer games, music and just started my Lizardmen army. Actually, I bought parts of it years ago but never played them because of lack of time and motivation. I also have Goblins, Dwarves (both from the Battle for Skull Pass box), HeroQuest with all German expansions, BattleLore, Dungeons & Dragons Legend of Drizzt & Wrath of Ashardalon and more. I only assembled a handful of minis years ago and want to build them all NOW! Unfortunately, I'm not that skilled at assembling and even worse at painting. Let's wait and see! My army: 40 Saurus Warriors (plus 12 old models but won't use them as they look ridiculous) 24 Skinks (plus 10 old models but....see above) 20 Temple Guards 16 Saurus Cavalry 1 Oldblood Veteran 1 Kroq-Gar, Carnosaur 2 Stegadons + what I just ordered yesterday: 1 Slann 3 Kroxigors 1 Skink Starpriest I will play Warhammer Fantasy 8th edition with a friend who's an experienced Vampire Counts player! My army theme will be nature-related, guardians of the forest, jungle, whatever. I'll use several colors to paint the minis but won't go for Games Workshop's style. My choice will be green and variations, just like Orcs and Goblins with different green tones, representing different tribes and origins.
Welcome! Always happy to see new people joining the sacred mission to purge the universe from the abomination of Chaos!
Thanks! My mission is different. I'm a defensive tribe, even peaceful but invaders - get the f... out of my forest! Ugly skeletons roaming the forest of an army of plague rats poisoning everything? Chaos warriors marching around and destroying plants? No way!
Greetings and Welcome! It is excellent to hear that there are others joining the fight against the Vampire filth also. I have been steadily preparing for the occasion when Vampire scum encroach on my territory too, so that I can hammer them into the ground with the might of the forces of the Old Ones! 16 Saurus Cavalry will demolish practically any Vampire Counts unit single-handedly - It looks as though you're already on the way to victory! I too have the Battle of Skull Pass set and from that grew sizeable armies of Dwarfs and Greenskins to join my Lizardmen, and also High Elves and Skaven from the Island of Blood, and I have my own copy of HeroQuest, although I don't have any of the expansions I look forward to seeing the might of your forest army!
Thanks for your warm welcome! I have to learn a lot as I've only played one, yes 1, game of Warhammer years ago but without Lizardmen. I've been practicing rolling dice for months just as compensation for my lack of experience. Is Saurus Cavalry actually good? I've heard different things. Anyway, now a Bastiladon is on its way (don't know how a large monster will fit in my post box). Moreover, I have alternative models for Salamanders, Razordons and Jungle Swarms. Lord Agragax, getting HeroQuest expansions in the UK is easier than in other countries. Years ago I was lucky to buy an expansions for 30€ that would have cost 50€ in Germany or other countries.
Welcome! Won't be able to help you with 8th but I am sure the guys have that covered. Don't forget to post pics so we can also assist you at improving your painting if you wish!
Saurus Cavalry are excellent - they are basically Saurus versions of knights as they have a 2+ save. The only thing about them is that they are overpriced (a unit of 8 costs around 300 points), but they can utterly devastate anything short of Chaos Warriors or Ironguts. Certainly they can defeat any non-ethereal unit in the Vampire Counts army, especially in such a large unit as 16. Getting heroquest expansions is difficult if you refuse to use Ebay like I do.
Part 1 of my GW order arrived today! Slann, Kroxigors and Skink Starpriest. No epic pictures on the packaging...pretty boring. Maybe because they are GW webshop-only?
Received my Bastiladon today! It is more than awesome, I love it! I will use the sun something on its top and not the snakes. The snakes are perfect for creating jungle swarms.
Hate to break it to you but Jungle Swarms are not a thing anymore, they are now called Celestial Swarms. But doesn't matter, they are bad anyway. And not playable in pitched battles. ...but you can build both versions of the Basti, it is easy to switch between them! Also those leftover snakes are cool for decorative purposes.
Jungle Swarms for life! Celestial Swarms is such a stupid name for a bunch of slithering snakes and creepy crawlies.
Originally I wanted to agree, but.... you're actually right. Also I am kinda sad/angry that they even took the Seraphon keyword from them making them impossible to play. In friendly AoS games you can still play them though, and I will, since I kinda like Jungle Swarms. Even though they are quite bad.
Welcome aboard, you mention painting models in the past, if you start a paint blog I can guarantee that once you start getting feedback and tips on how to paint that your skills will vastly improve. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.
Thanks but...I suck so bad. I don't have a steady hand...I paint something, then something else but a drop of color ruins what I had painted before...starting a loop of painting and repairing.
Damn right! I also shake like an alcoholic and still manage to paint decently. Practice helps getting it under control to a certain degree. Now go, paint, and then post your pics!
Welcome to the forums! It's always refreshing to meet a new 8th edition player! But if you want to go to Age of Sigmar, 9th Age, or Kings of War, we got resources for that too. Of course you want to check out my very favorite thread here, the 8th Edition Tactica Index! Me too! But I'm branching out to play Age of Seraphon, just so I can play more games. Yeah, Swarms are fun to paint, but they don't perform well in battle. Swarms are slightly more viable if you take the Ark of Sotek option for the Bastiladon but most agree the Solar Engine is better. If you are handy with magnets you can do both (or just throw out Wizziwig "Today it's Ark of Sotek!)
