I’m fairly new to Lizards/Seraphon on an AoS front, I have a Battleforce and Start Collecting box sitting ready to go but further down the painting line in my pile of shame. I have recently started painting a Lizardman team that I’m running at tournaments this year, culminating in me playing on one of the two Scottish teams at the World Cup in Austria in October. Here’s some WIP pics of Skinks, they’re not far off finished.
Started work on Project Seraphon this weekend. I told myself that if I paint a unit, in this case a squad of 20 Skinks with Boltspitters and clubs, I get to paint something bigger! So after if finished these guys I’m going to make a start on a Bastilodon with Solar Engine. After that I’m aiming for a block of 20 Saurus, then I think I’ll make some Terradons.
Lol, I really need it, I’m an achingly slow painter (full time work, 2 kids and a musician mean hobby stuff gets a pretty small slice of my time unfortunately) and I’m probably not alone in the fact that I get bored painting units. I should really take some decent photos of the Lizardman Blood Bowl team now that they’re finished too!
This is why I like to keep 2 projects on the go, a squad unit etc that I'm batch painting and maybe taking a few liberties with and a character monster or something more deserving of detail. I try to do a bit of work on the unit and then work on the other more unique project each time I sit down. Eventually things get done and I stay more engaged.
I’ve been deciding on colour schemes for the Skinks as well based on caste: Warriors - Purpley pink (like above) Priests - light green/blue Beast crew/handlers - Orange Beast Riders (Terradon/Rippers) - Yellow I’ve thought about Saurus as well - Hero’s - light green/blue Warriors/Knights - Dark Blue Temple Guard - Albino White
That's a nice looking skink alpha. Is that Contrast pink? What are the scales, if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks! Yes, it’s Volupous pink contrast paint over coral white. I then dry brushed a little tyrant skull over it to pick out the highlights a bit more and gave it a quick glaze with a 70%medium/30%Volupous pink mix to tie it in The scales are incubi darkness, they’ll be highlighted up after a wash with Nuln oil. I wanted to get this lot done fairly quickly (in comparison to how I normally work) so I’ll leave the brighter highlights off battleline for the moment, though I might go back at a later date and do them. My style is more muted and blended than stark highlights though as I prefer a more natural look where possible.
I’ve finished that block of Skinks, we’ll i just need to base them but they’re painted at least. I started on the Bastilodon today and got a good chunk of him done! Pretty happy with the way he’s going so far. I also managed to get a full shot of my completed Lizardman Blood Bowl team too.
