Hi all, This could be a VERY interesting Kickstarter. It is a "dropper bottle" top to place over your Citadel paint pots. 18 days left. Check it out! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/droptop/droptop-by-drtabletop
For the price of one bottle of GW paint and the additional pennies for the dropper top... ...a lizard could instead buy two different colors from Reaper ...or P3 ...or Scale75.
Whereas I prefer Vallejo paints, GW washes are quite unique, and good! They could be less glossy though, haha. I can't wait until this hits the stores or I ask my friend to print that.
I rather like Citadel colors, and it is a bit of a pain to transfer them. This could be pretty cool, if it works
I think this is a fantastic answer to people who like citadel paints but dislike the pot design however I think I am missing the point of dropper bottles. If I am being 100% transparent and honest - I think the amount of focus people put on the importance of dropper bottles is insane. The effort and extra money involved in some of these youtube tutorials for transferring to dropper bottles is absolutely mind blowing and I can't think of a better way to procrastinate or waste my time. Can someone explain to me? I've always transferred paint from the pot to the palette with a brush, is it worth the effort and if so, why?
That's how I do it for brushwork, but I use an airbrush too on occasion. The dropper makes a lot of sense there - Transferring from a pot to an airbrush is a real pain otherwise.
I can see the application there, but don't you need to mix the paint with flow improver and water in the well/hopper anyway?
Took a look at the kickstarter, but at those prices, I would strongly recommend getting a set of dropper bottles from ebay and just transfer the paint yourself. I think I got a hundred dropper bottled for less than 10 dollars including shipping, so there is not really any extra money involved with transferring to dropper bottles. There are two main improvements you get by using dropper bottles. 1. It is easier to get a set amount of paint (and with that also mixing paint at the same ratios). 2. This is the main one, your paint will not dry out like they will if you leave them in the Citadel pots. All depending on how long you have been having this hobby, and if you have had any pauses during that period, this is a common issue with their paint pots (Though if we look from the business side, this is a feature, since you are forced to purchase more
Well, kind of. Most dropper bottles have more space than the citadel pots, so I tend to add some flow improver and thinner during the transferral. Also helps the paint to flow out of the pot better. If I get the mix right, I don't even have to add anything once its in the well.
