What you see below I'd the results of about an hour of playing around with greenstuff, a hobby knife, and a nail file. Proper sculpting tools are on the list.

    The intent here was twofold.

    1. Make a few different glyphs to use as a banner piece for one of my 10 mm lizard men.

    2. Attempt to make a reversed tear drop back banner that was used by a specific caste-group of Aztec warriors. The lines looked cleaner, but then I attempted to add feathers around the edge and fouled everything.

I'm trying to take things in stride. You can't climb if you don't start at the bottom and I might as well have some fun with it.

Those turned out pretty good @Lord-Marcus great jumping off point!

Here is what I have, other than an excess of animal fur, I kept smashing details with my fat fingers so the skaven lost his fur detail, as well as got re-sculpted two or three times:

Snake tail piece on the left:

Slann ornament with tongue sticking out:

And Skaven head, as it's just a good accessory:

@Noxolotl amazing work on these. The tail rings are so tight. Some great detail here!

    Not entirely....

There may well be one further down the line, at this stage it's more about setting people small challenges and each winner gets to pick the next one.
Speaking of which, a mate of mine is a big fan of these style of vids, this gent in particular is good, because he shows you his mistakes and explains more of the processes involved.

This also includes mini-hacks like using an airbrush to blow the resin to create a water like effect.

@Rikard any tips for sculpting cloaks, or very basic crowns/headwear?

Everyone happy for me to keep the end of this one as the 30th? I can wrap it up sooner if people like?
I'm also happy to start giving out feedback and thoughts too, much of this will actually be on your approach to models, for me personally, the approach (call it problem solving if you will) is probably the most important part of sculpting.

There's always a multiple number of different ways to scultp something, none of them are the right way, except to the individual alone, but as can be found in the above video, some methods can create a perfect look with minimal effort.

Yes, I'll have a rummage through my dropbox account as I think I've go some photos from that Lady Vamp I did years ago.
For both crowns and parts of capes, I would recommend sculpting them seperately off the model (although there's wiggle room if it's a cape, because it depends where on the model the cape attaches and how much movement you're incorporating in it).

Rectangular drape, over the unarmored Aztec torso.

See the attached codex Mendoza folio as an example of the type of cloak I want to achieve, although probably with a little movement due to both bodies from the figures themselves being in some form of movement.

I'll get some offerings up this weekend to get things rolling, I'll also be commenting on techniques.

One thing I'll work on reiterating is approach, there's never a right and wrong with of doing something, there's only ways that work best for you and ways you struggle with.

As for drapes over warrirors, pose and movement are the things you need to look at, the actually fabric should be considered too (so if it was made from some sort of animal pelt, it will have far fewer creases due to it's thickness). Wherever possible you should try to find an online example/reference to make your life easier.

    Sorry about delays.

There was a fire at one of my clients houses, so that kind of occupied me a little with getting sorting out an action plan and Electrics.

Without going into too much detail, the client was VERY lucky, the fire got into the roof spaces, Fire chief said that nine times out of ten, when that happens, the propery is lost.

    Ah!...when it rains, it pours.

Dad has Covid, tested positive the day after Sunday lunch with the family.
I'm going to post an update today, if people are happy, I'll be covering the each person's attempts.

Got to say I'm impressed with the approaches you've been using.

    @Rikard and everyone else:

I just want to share my joy at this. I had an idea, I let the Muse flow, and I did what I'm considering my first real sculpting ever.

Yeah I dabbled with a few glyphs last month but I've never completely altered models like this and I'm ecstatic that it worked and it looks decent. I'm hoping pain will make it even better.

I'm especially happy with the plague cysts that I scattered across the available fleshy areas.

Although there will be a full introduction to this project when these are painted, I give you WIP maruaders of Nurgle.

I think the best it´s combo of mini-challenges (monthly) and a final exam (in 3-4 months) with sculpting context in something so specific that nobody can cheat and use previous models.

Also that the test were ussable even if they are not the best, like use all the tests together to make a swarm.

    I will join for sure!

I got some Green Stuff for Christmas and would certainly enjoy learning to sculpt with a series of challenges posted on here that gradually escalate in difficulty. I hope nobody will mind if my efforts turn up rather later than 1st April, because I have been caught up in making and painting models in my pile of shame right now and I would like to finish what I'm currently doing first.
