Oh we don't have one of these?

I've never played or collected WFB O&G, though they certainly look like one of the funnest armies.

Recently I've been assembling and painting the Mantic orcs, the ones with hammers. Though the torsos lack a fair bit of detail I've found they have made for some great cheapish models to just thrash out. Looking forwards to trying them in One Page Rules eventually, and maybe even alongside a tiny Beastment collection my brother is assembling in order to facilitate a proper WFB game!

    Good idea for a thread!

Nice to see you're going for the Mantic Orcs, they are a valid alternative to the OOP GW standard Orcs, though the Riftforged ones you seem to be making would work best as Black Orcs, as the latter are the only Orc unit to wear heavy armour that would fit that of the Riftforged Orcs. For normal Boyz you'll have to grab some of the ordinary Mantic Orcs:

Though if you're a Fantasy player, why go backwards to One Page Rules? Unless you've lost or haven't got a Rulebook, in which case OPR is a fair place to start.

Lack of players interested in WFB sadly, but OPR is great for getting quick games with minis on the board from people less interested in full complexity games!

I'm running the double handed hammers as black orcs, all the single hammers as regulars. I suppose I could call them bigguns instead.

How many Riftforged Orcs do you have?

Certainly one unit of those with hammers and shields could be used as Big'Uns, but you can only have one unit of Big'Uns per army (in Fantasy rules anyway). In any case, Black Orcs can choose between Great Weapons, Additional Hand Weapons and Hand Weapons and Shields in every combat, thanks to the 'Armed to da Teef' rule, so all your Riftforged models with either weapon option could be fitted together in the same unit as Black Orcs.

I would still say though that the ordinary Mantic Orcs are more indicative of standard Boyz and even Big'Uns, because they only wear light armour and it would look a bit daft for your mighty Riftforged Orcs to die as easily as standard Boyz do!

I was so impressed with the SINGLE random spider rider gobbo I had acquired somewhere in the past that I went and bought a box. Such wonderful models, and with moulded bases! I had a great result with zenithal highlighting from a can for the first time, and I'm not completely happy but using the army painter contrast paints has done a good enough job on the spiders for now. 20220929_152809.jpg

They're a classic kit, dating back to when Battle for Skull Pass came out at the beginning of 7th Edition Fantasy (2006). The included moulded bases were a great idea, it's a shame to see that GW didn't bother to continue the idea in any subsequent kits for Warhammer Fantasy. However since the 'New GW' developed those Shattered Dominion and Sector Imperialis bases for AoS and 40K, they may revisit the idea for TOW, given squares are definitely set to return (though they won't be included in the kits themselves, they'll be an extra pack you have to pay £20+ for )

What are you planning to use those daft English Setter dogs that come with the Mantic Halflings for? Wolf Riders?

I would love to see some dialogue from an experienced Orcs & Goblins general.

Yes @PlasmaDavid they are a very fun army to play. Very random.

Hah nah those dogs will be mounted as intended and used with the other halflings from the set, though the mantic halflings are only a foot shorter than normal heroic humans not exactly hobbitses!

It's a shame One Page Rules have gone for the most simple and predictable rules possible, no presence of any whacky O &G or Skaven random shenanigans. (Yes I don't have any ready access to WFB players where I am in regional Aus)

I am absolutely going to buy the Shield wolf forest goblin kit (25 models!) and maybe some wargame Atlantic giant spiders now!

Forest gobbos have slowly come along, and I've got a couple of independant artist resin gobbo prints waiting for some attention too! A lot of army painter speedpaints being used on these guys!

These are the shieldwolf forest goblins I mentioned, pricey but not as bad as GW AoS per model prices. They're certainly their own sort of look but they go fine with my other not-GW orcs!

I also caved and finally ordered a box of mantic regular orcs, these armoured boyz can be bigguns. Paying only 40AUD for a unit of 20 models just brings nostalgia tears to the eyes I tell ya.
