    Thank you!

Tonight's work. Base for the engine of gods and a little one off guy... Based him on ring neck parakeets.

Sad to hear this man, sorry for your loss.

Great job on painting those salamanders, the big bases give a very nice thematic to the model :artist::artist:
The first eye color that I thought off was green as well.

    Grrr, !mrahil

That is a very cute guy, wonderful paintjob.

I actually was thinking: what has become of that Stegadon? last time I scrolled your blog (to see if you already had posted some full army pictures)

Taking a break from being productive to increase the to-do pile lol

So firstly, making some salamanders from Raventwin miniatures.

    PXL_20221004_170339838.jpg

But more importantly, making another stegadon.

The howdah's main component comes from the one page rules latest triceratops (hideous and ugly sculpted animal in my opinion, but the howdah is great).

Then, the animal's body is from Lord of the Print's Sinocreatops (which I've used for two smaller stegadons)... Scaled a tad bigger than my last use of it.

But the really cool bit, is the head. Which comes from Dragon Trapper's Lodge, brutasaurus kit.

The body (not shown) was... Different... 6 legs, armadillo or pangolin scales... And I just didn't quite love it. But the head is fantastically armored and so I shelled out 20$ just for it lol.

What I haven't built out yet is the two flame throwers that are going to be mounted on the side pontoons of the howdah.

This beasties' unique role is to break down a fortress gate and break up the unit formations behind it with momentum and fire.

Such a attack is usually fatal for the crew the animal. As such, the animal is usual a fierce bull, that is becoming elderly and has already sired offspring. In the herd such bulls have been known to turn and fight predators chasing the herd (to the death) self sacrificially and this custom is seen as a extension of that nature. The skinks involved are also considered sacrifices and greatly honored when given the task, usually given a feast the night before and personally commended by the highest ranking Saurus available.

    :)

Looks amazing! And I, as coward myself admire combining several models into one. I always worried that it will not fit properly and I end up with pile of expensive trash.

Really sorry to hear about your cat, 16 years of good times is great tho

Awesome job on the salamanders, the patterns on the skin look great! I do think green eyes would look good with the colors you have going on

Things for pretty well, and nothing a little green stuff can't fix.

Part of why is I always do digital mockups with the parts and scale them to look good/fit. It's definitely a leg up and easier than true kit bashing.

I also pay a lot of attention to the skin. Of the beasts and whether they would clash if mixed and such.

Well, long time no post... Been busy with a lot of miscellaneous models, but I did get my Saurus Cav and Salamanders finished.

Next up is hopefully some skinks, skink handlers, and a crocodile hero from OPRM.

And well... Eventually I'll need to buy all these new GW cav models as well lol.

The anticipation is killing us :argh::wideyed: Looking forward to seeing what you pull off!

Your minis look so crisp when they are printed. If I may ask, what kind of 3D printer do you use, and what is the max "precision" or "resolution" it goes too? My brother bought one recently, its an older kind I am pretty sure, he says it can go up to .12 mm resolution.

    Of course you can ask!!

I started printing more or less at the beginning of this thread/blog. At the time I was using a Anycubic Photon. So for example, that big Engine of the Gods chasmosaurus I just posted about, was printed on that printer.

About 6 months later a little revolution came to Printers, the "Mono" screens. The main component that wears out on Printers is a LCD screen. The Mono screens are monochrome, and generally last vastly longer... they also achieve far faster print times. So then I switched to a Anycubic Photon Mono SE (which I still have).

Then the next revolution in printing happened, the less radical development of 8K (VS 4K) LCD screens, which increases the resolution of what you can print.

So then around Xmas time, I simply decided to treat myself... because my machine's mono screen might have been nearing it's end of life, I wanted a bigger model, and frankly Anycubic was showing its shortcomings.

Enter my current printer the Elegoo Saturn 8K.

All of that background is meant to help explain a few key things:

    1) The more a printer is used, the more the LCD screen degrades. The longer the Print takes, the more the LCD screen degrades.
    2) The higher the resolution you choose in layer size (0.12 for example) the longer the Print takes.
    3) Newer Mono Screens are 2-3X faster, thus they last much longer than the older screens.
    4) While layer size generally determines detail quality, the other factor is the resolution of the LCD screen (2K vs 4K vs 8K)

Now. Standard printing resolution is generally considered 0.05 (5 microns) and most of my stuff gets printed at that scale (such as aforementioned engine of gods dino). This balances the time it take to print (and thus LCD degradation) with detail of the model. But a 0.05 model printed on a 2K screen is going to look much less crisp than the same model printed on a 8K screen.

Today, for most things I want to come out "Perfect" I will print at 0.035. Or, if it is a very small model, 0.02 is the absolute max I will print. Below that is certainly possible, but you really won't see a difference in quality, especially on anything less than a 8K screen.

It is also possible to increase detail by using better resin (they now have resin specific for 8K screens).

    So for your brother....

Yes it can almost certainly print at 0.12, but that's going to double the time to print things versus printing at 0.02 and he will not see any crispier detail. He'll just burn out the screen faster.

If he bought a pre-mono 4 or 2K printer, I wouldn't go lower than 0.035 honestly. If he got a high end machine, it's likely an 8K mono screen and that's more important than layer sizes when we are in the 0.02-3 range.

So yeah... hope that isn't too much info!

Wow these are really good details, its just a new language that I don't really understand yet . But that is a good point about how fast they can burn themselves out, something I am going to keep in mind.

I am learning a lot from him as he begins to experiment, and I look forward to seeing what he continues to come up with... and am looking forward to seeing what else you print too!
