Eight full years of seasonal short story contests, and now we begin our ninth awesome year of writing! The theme for our 33rd seasonal short story contest is upon us. We are going to kick off the new year, with something simple, but broad in possibilities. The Contest Theme brought to us by @thedarkfourth is Dinosaurs. The Rules -We would like you to try to keep your story between 500 and 2000 words. I am requiring that entries do not exceed 2400 words. This is counting title, poems, quotes, any add-ons. If I get a submission that exceeds 2400 words, I will trim it till it meets the limit, and you may not like what words I choose to cut. Even prepositions are not safe... -Your name must appear nowhere with the story. There is no point in having an anonymous competition based on skill if we know whose entry is whose. -You must send your story via private message to Scalenex before noonish (US Central time) on February 1st 2023 -The story must be new. No dragging up a story you wrote months or years ago. -No plagiarism. This means no stealing a story verbatim. You are free to use characters or settings from other works including other writer's fluff pieces and past short story contest entries. -The story must involve Lizardmen (or Seraphon or Salamanders or Saurian Ancients or Rangos), at least a little. -The story must stick roughly within the theme, at least a little. -No comics or illustrations. This is a short story contest. Visuals are limited to fonts and text colors. -Only one entry allowed per person. Once again, the winner of this contest has the honor of choosing the next contest theme if they so choose. If you want to talk about the theme or your eagerness to write or read something. Please do so below!
But if you want to make me really happy, write a poem for the Winter 2022/23 Poetry Contest and then write a short story.
I am not sure, but I seem to not be able to find the Theme for the contest in this post. Are we still awaiting a theme chosen by @thedarkfourth or is the theme: I am happy? Grrr, !mrahil
That's what I get for playing with fonts and poor porofreding. Theme is "Dinosaurs" For me, I often find Derek and Brand Flecter's playlists helps me write things. I listen to their western music when writing Westhammer stories. And they also got this.
Hey @Scalenex I think this'll be my first entry to the contest, so I wanted to ask (since you know I post most of my stuff in ao3 as well) if it's ok for me to send you the ao3 link in the pm instead of the full story?
It is okay, but not preferred. * * * * * * If you ever you italics or other font changes for emphasis, or nonuniform spacing. Or bright colors, there is a good chance that if I copy and paste text from your link, something may be lost or altered by accident. But if you submit me a story in private message using Lustria-Online, I will copy and paste it exactly as is because L-O has no translation problems copying and pasting from L-O.
Interesting. I already had an idea beforehand I wanted to write regardless of whatever theme was chosen, but this basically flipped what I planned on its head into something more opposite. I like it more . ofc no guarantees I'm going to write something.
I have had an idea sprang to mind today... so I will be starting something. Wish me luck Grrr, !mrahil
What if you let your mind wander it never comes back? Anyway, you'll never guess how many entries we have now.
My story is now (more or less) completed. Time to polish it and maybe trim some parts, as i fear it drags for a little too long.
