So this summer I started my first warhammer fantasy army, choosing Lizardmen. In all fairness, I did choose to do them before 8th was released, but let's just say this edition has been good to my Slaan I have been lurking on the Lustria Online forums since the spring, and since I have found a ton of useful info on this site while I get up to speed with my lizzies, I thought I would share back and post pics now that my army is completed. I chose Lizardmen because they would allow me to wash and drybrush an army quickly, while still looking decent. I am more than happy to share colour recipes if you have any questions. The list I tend to play with these models is being discussed here. This model is a ton of fun. I modeled all the skinks with pins in their feet, so the can be removed as they die. The priest also has a separate base that the pin fits into, so if the steg dies, he can still run around on foot: This colour scheme was a bit accidental, but I love how it turned out. No 8th ed lizardmen army should be without one of these guys I wanted to try out magic in WFB, and boy is a Slaan a good way to throw around spells: I use him as a Scar Vet in my army, but I think the Chakax model is cool: I made this guy out of extra parts from my Steg kit, but was pleasantly surprised at how he turned out: The larger of my two saurus blocks uses spears for extra attacks: Nice block of Saurus with Hand Weapons, to get the parry save for extra survivability: I usually play these guys as chameleons, even though I have painted them as standard blue skinks: In my lizzie army, the bigger you are, the darker blue your skin is, hence the cold ones are darker than their saurus riders (and skinks are the lightest of all): Salamander from my Lizardmen army. I really do like these guys in 8th, but perhaps he is painted a bit too brightly to avoid attracting the attention of opposing generals The whole army together: Comments and feedback welcome, Robin
You have some serious skills. How on earth did you manage to paint so many models so beautifully if you only started on them in the summer. They all look fantastic, I especially love the Slann.
Nicely done my friend, surely you are the expert of quick washes. I realy like the whole color scheme and brightness of army. one of the more original lizie armies I have seen in quite a while.
I have gone green with envy, I must now WAAAAAGH! through your paint studio. Love the slann, could I get a bit closer of a shot at his head/back area he looks like he's been stippled a bit makes him seem like the warty toad he ought to be. Also the steg is beautiful.
I think the stegadon and the slann are some of the best I've seen in a long while. I really like the green stegadon, I'm planning of painting mine in a similar way. Great looking army!!!!
Looks fantastic. Plus, you managed to paint your entire army while some of us are a little....slower. Everything looks great, but the Slaan is nice & different. My only request is a close up pic of the saurus' please?
Fantastic paint job and love what you did with that one skink with the stegadon bits. The stegadon is my favorite one there!
Thanks for all the positive feedback guys! I appreciate it. I will likely add to my Lizzies at some point, I will definitely update when I do. I have some Temple Guard I may do (I just haven't played them much yet, since I am going with Super Slaan instead), and I may do actual chameleons since I have really enjoyed proxying them with my skinks, rather than playing them as skirmishers. Thanks - while most of the work was done this summer and fall (using a spray gun to basecoat and wash), I looked at my receipts and was surprised I bought my battalion box back in January. So while I was painting more of my Black Legion army in the winter/spring, I may not have been as speedy as I first thought Yes indeed I actually sat down when planning this army to use washes and drybrushing as much as I could. Since Lizzies are almost all natural surfaces (as opposed to clothing, armour, etc), they were the perfect candidate for this technique, one that I am relying on more and more, heh. For sure... I will try and cook up a shot soon. It was all washing and drybrushing, but with the right colours you can really bring out the beauty of the initial sculpt, and the Slaan has some nice detail built in. Cool! The steg is a really fun model to paint. I would recommend painting the body seperate from the howdah, gluing them together once they are painted separately. If you are interested, here is the recipe for my Steg: * Knarloc Green basecoat for the skin, Snot green basecoat for the scales * Wash the whole model in Devlan Mud * Drybrush the whole model with Rotting Flesh See below for the bone recipe... Cool, will do... they will likely look better close up than the far away unit shot. Thanks, here is my recipe for bone (as seen on the steg, slaan, and Chakax): * Basecoat of Dheneb Stone * Wash with Devlan Mud * Heavy drybrush of Bleached Bone * Wash with Gryphonne Sepia * Light dry brush of Bleached Bone again, usually focusing more towards the tips, sometimes actually painting the tip Bleached Bone (such as on the steg and slaan) Cheers, Robin
