Hello all I am a new spawning to the jungles of Lustria. I hope that by starting a blog of sorts it will inspire me to keep up a good pace of work. So far I only have one of the old Kroxigor models which I have nearly finished, and will hopefully get some pics up on her later this week. I have planned out a 2000 point army which I will hope to get by the end of the year. I want to rty to improve the overall standard of my painting for my army so hope to paint indivdually or in small batches to stop me from rushing them to much. The first unit that I will hope to get done will be a skrox unit as I love the different heights in one unit, this is one of the main reasons that I have decided to collect Lizardmen, oh and who doesn't like kick ass dinosaurs. Right, back to the painting table, hope to have something to show you all soon Thanks
Red lizards! I like you already. It looks good. Could use more (clearer) highlights and such, but it's not bad. I don't like the base though, but it's only a matter of taste. Cheers!
I have brought it up to blood red from black, other than trying to mix in some white I am not sure how to increse the highlight, I am worried that it might be inconsitant with a blood red/white mix.
If you wanted to just go to blood red, it should be in only the upper highlights, the model is quite dark as is probably could do a little more blood red on the highlights, just small amounts. If you want to go brighter, don't mix white in or you will get pink. Mix some yellow in and you will start to get dark oranges which brighten well with blood red. Really depends on how light or dark you want the model though. I quite like it, red lizards look good! Nice work. On the topic of highlighting, might be worth putting a little bit of dark grey on the scales as well to define the black more. Should be ok like that for saurus, but anything bigger and you will want a bit more definition.
Been a while, but have been very busy lately. So here is my Krox with a few things tweeked. I think it is much better now. I am very happy with the result. Not the base, but I am still not sure how I am going to them. What do you guys think?
Hey! Nice work man! I suggest you keep working so you can give us more updates . Also, you should move your topic to the Army blog section of the forum.
Well I have to finish the second Krog off and then I will get some skinks on the go I think. It will probably take a long time to finish that unit but I will certainly keep working and keep you guys up to date.
It looks nice! I like those two colors together. And as stated before, the weapon on that second Kroxigor looks awesome! My only suggestion would be to add a couple more coats of paint in to take away the shiny/wet look. Are you using any primers or base coats (fe. Black or White)?
The reason they look shiny is that I did not water the early base coates down. Lesson leaned. The weapons are probably the easiest part. Base coat iandan dark sun, highlight bleach bone, extreme highlight skull white, wash with a watered down wood stain. Got the tip from a friend with a nice plague mariene army.
Hmmmm thats a good idea on the final wash I remember when I first started painting. All the pieces were pewter and I never base coated so the edges wouldn't paint, the paint was to wet to hold onto the pewter edges. All my models were basically metal-looking with colorful washes Fun times
Ok so here is the second krox. I know that it isn't perfect but I honestly think it is the best model I have ever painted. It is not totally finished yet in that the base needs to be jungled up a bit more but I could wait no longer to share with you guys. Also I figured out that most of the shinny is from a combination that I stupidly did not water down the first few layers of paint, lesson learnt. I hope you like.
Hello all, Sorry it has been a while, lots of family stuff on the go at the moment. So here is my first saurus and a bit of a tester really. The shine is because it is a horrible day here so no natural light, flash=shine I think. Let me know what you think.
