    Hi Everyone,

It has been a while since I have posted here. Life keeps you busy from those hobbies you love at times.

In an attempt to get myself and my circle of Warhammer friends actively gaming again I have come up with some rules for a Campaign which you can find at the below link, also there is a sample map that we are planning to use.

    http://www.box.net/shared/1f1bax48k2ctbc37knq6

    The rules are simple...

We do not want to be bogged down in non game micro managing.
We do not want on army become super powerful.
We do not need a lot of fluff behind the campaign.
We do not need the rules to be perfectly balanced.
We do want armies to be slightly persistent.
We do want a little bit of flexibility as to not get bored.
We do want some special rules to make life interesting.
We do want to play pitched battles with a little bit more meaning and purpose.
We most of all just want to have fun!

So I share these rules and map with you to inspire you if you are perhaps thinking or wanting something similar.

    Enjoy,

    Sino ... =)

    Hi Sino,

I've been thinking I'd like to put together a campaign to add a bit of flavour to my mates games as well.

The website at the link is asking for a username and password to access the files you have posted but it sounds like we have the same sort of ideas on themes and outcomes for the campaign.

    Good luck with yours

    Hi,

That link worked much better thanks, just been having a browse through the document. Looks like there's a lot of great stuff in there. I need to have a proper look through it this weekend instead of just skimming at work.

I've been having a look at the old mighty empires ruleset that GW have put on their website too and been think I quite like the season's aspect too and might try to include something like that into the campaign.

Guess I know how I'm spending my Saturday lol

Mighty Empires has some great stuff. Probably the best campaign all up. I found that when I started looking at it my greed got the better of me and I wanted more and more of its rules to be incorporated into mine. As this went against the keep it simple paradigm I decided to stop!

Seasons would be great. I was also toying with terrain types, in the end I didnt want to complicate the map and just went with impassable regions and ocean regions, which are basically impassable but do help the lizardmen a tiny bit. ;)

We have been playing it over the past few days having turns where we can. The turns are quick at the start as people are racing to the centre and now building a more stable supply to the centre so they cant get cut off. I expect to see a battle very soon when someone steps on the same region as another. Everyone is being too cautious to attack a taken region at this stage!

    A few updates:

Added a mechanic for 2v2 battles to occur (2v2 battles are a lot of fun with mates!)
Added portalling through Fallen Star Regions to reach armies you might not have been able to and thus be able to attack different armies (not just the usual two on either side of you!)
Added another win condition, 18 turns only, winner is the holder of the most regions (Fallen Star Regions count double)

    =)

Just floated this as an idea for our little gaming group. Gotta say, it gels pretty well with our attitude towards playing. Hopefully the guys are up for it :p

How many players do you think is ideal for your rules? we've really only got 3 regular guys, and 1 non-regular. Do you think that's enough to have a good campaign?

Thanks for taking the time to check over the rules =)

The rules are purposely made lose to fit in with the level of commitment my friends can offer. Your mob sound like they are in a similar boat but there is 2-3 less players. The rules should work just as well for you with 3-4 players as they are for me with 6.

We have been adapting as we go. Originally there were no 2v2 battles but we realised that we like those style of battles on occasions. Originally it was hard attack armies on the opposite sides of the map so we made the Fallen Star Regions portals to open up more variety in our 1v1 battles.

With 3-4 players you most likely wouldn't run into the issue mentioned above about always fighting the people on your left and right and never being able to get those other armies across the map!

Just make sure you set up a nice map to begin with, armies spaced fairly even, enough space between each to start grabbing land and of course the well placed Fallen Star Regions in the middle that everyone will want to gravitate towards.

Allowed horde armies such as Skaven and Orc & Goblins ( in our campaign ) to add, remove or swap twice the amount of units other armies can between turns.

Allowed an army to add, remove, swap a single ( two for horde armies ) hero or lord choice between turns instead of swapping any units.

The Horde armies were complaining that point for point they werent being allowed the same changes that an army such as Warriors of Chaos could make!

The Character change option was brought in to allow armies to not always be restricted to magic heavy or melee heavy or whatever else there may be. This way they can at least change the purpose behind their army from time to time and provide a little extra surprise between turns.

Was there meant to be a blank campaign map anywhere? I can just make my own, but I liked the way yours looked.

I uploaded the photoshop document, in the same folder as the rules document, it has all the pretty layers and effects that I have been using to generate my maps. Hope it helps. =)

Ok, cool. I don't see a folder link on box.net though. Do you have a link to the folder/map file possibly?

Cheers mate! That link works. I'm going to try and get my group keen this weekend. I'm digging the simplicity of the rules, while still being interesting out-of-game.
