So I got a new Vampire Counts book, and now I've been inspired to make a Vampire Pact army for Storm of Magic.

Conversions aren't normally my thing. My thoughts are thus.

    Lustrian Corpse Cart
-Replace the pile of corpses with LM corpses made from various bits
-Replace the iron bound wheels with actual wooden wheels or bits from a goblin chariot to make them look more primitive.
-Replace the corpse master with a a witch doctor-ish necromancer type (as soon as I find a good model)
-Replace the four human zombies pulling the cart with two zombie cold ones.

    Lustrian Black Coach
The vampires lost a corpse cart but saved the coffin. A necromancer zombified a Stegadon to serve as the makeshift black coach.
-Mix Black coach bits in with the howdah (not sure what to crew it with)
-carve apart of the Steggies chest and put in riib bits from the zombie dragon model
-cut one of the Steggies three main horns in half to represent damage, maybe remove some body spikes altogether and replace them with spears (like when a sharp implement is substituted for a missing arm on a human zombie)
-Chunks of putrid flesh here and there

For Core I'll either use my Cursed Company or try to make some skink zombies. Not sure how to go about making them. I'd also like to have a savage vampire of some sort ot lead them but I'm not sure how to make a vampire look savage or a savage look vampiric.

If you guys have any ideas, let me know.

Saw your thread on Carpe Noctem, so can't really offer any further advice (I'm Monkey's_Uncle bye the way).
I do look forward to seeing what you come up with.

This sounds really cool. I like the idea of using a zombie steg as a black coach! Flying steg ftw.

Sounds like a pretty interesting sounding army!

Have you considered saurus pulling the corpse cart instead of cold ones? That will differentiate it more from a chariot and fit closer to the slow nature of the cart and the fact that it would need to move carefully through dense jungle.

Cursed company are probably a good start. I think there was an undead saurus in that lot wasn't there? You could also try just painting the head of saurus in a bone theme and it will look like a skull. However, to go with that oyu would need to find a colour scheme for the rest of the body that looked pretty weathered and dead.

Buddy of mine bought a half-pack of skinks from our local hobby shop. Going to gouge out eyes and such and use interesting paint schemes to make them appear like zombified members of my army... bastard.

    Re: Lustria themed Vampires

I've done next to nothing conversion/kitbash related so far and I need to learn to walk before I learn to run (making a Steggy/black coach is definitely running). So I'm going to steal this idea. I got some plastic skinks bits and I got two bodies missing part of their tail and I thought "what should I do with these damaged goods." Now I know. I'm going to try gouging the eyes out. One of the test skinks I plan to chop down a javelin off a javelin arm and reglue the point to the hand so it looks like a zombie is brandishing the point alone of a javelin. The other I'll cut the point of the javelin off it to have a skink zombie fighting with a stick.

The new VC mentions zombies with tools, lumber and miscelaneous detrius used to replace missing body parts on zombies. Any ideas for what I could replace a skink arm or leg with?

I'll work on some test models this weekend and them post the pictures here.

    Re: Lustria themed Vampires

Maybe the easiest way to take the eyes out of skinks would be to use a small hand drill and drill them out? Might be worth cutting a bit flat to start with so the drill bit doesn't slide off, but then since they usually have conical ends you should end up with a nicely shaped socket.

if you are going for a lustria themed approach in the corpse cart i would also put some norse/chaos marouder bodies to represent the humans from Skeggi as well, i think you would get a good theme feeling more so by mixing the fullfalvor of lustria, as well as some zombie pirates and the such.

Those voodoo lizards look awesome! Now, how can I incorporate that into my army somewhere... Still need to paint my Salamanders...

You could probably do the Skink as a necromancer or something.

Tenehauin would look great with the hearth in his hand. You can add something like the coldron of blood that dark elves have.

    Re: Lustria themed Vampires

I like the vodoun skink, but I think I want to move in a different direction and have a savage witch doctor type human necromancer driving the corpse cart and a Robinson Cruso type vampire. That way they can still be tied to Lustria but still separate from the Lizardmen.

I am picturing a vampire expedition that went to Lustria with the hope of gaining power by drinking Slann blood to gain magical power to beat a rival vampire who is superior to him in magic. The vampire group got severely depleted after repeated fights with the Lizardmen.

EDIT: Now that i put a story in the fluff section, I took my old synopsis off.

    Here's the full story:

Re: Lustria themed Vampires NOW WITH PICTURES OF WIP

My first four skink zombies. Each one had the eyes gauged out by the tip of a nail heated on the flame of a candle. The same nail gave each body small holes and gauges. I scored the crests with an exacto knife and sanded the scales a little.

This one has a good view of the skink zombie with the peg leg, second from the right

    008.jpg

This is the least blurry group shot I have

    0082.jpg

The one on the left had half his leg replaced with the drumstick bit from a plastic Saurus musician. He is brandishing the point end of a javelin. His regular skink shield was studded with spikey weapon bits. The tail is mosly missing. I got it from e-bay that way and it inspired me to make zombie skinks in the first place. I also clipped the tip off the crest.

The one on the right is brandishing a broken javelin in one hand. The other hand is missing and a javelin point was inserted in the stump. I cut off about half the crest and warped it's face slightly with a hot nail.

    011.jpg

I didn't bother attaching both arms to the one on the left. I didn't want him to have a clean stump so I partially melted the shoulder. I cut the hand weapon in half. The one on the right, I put it's head in the candle flame and warped the head. I think it looks close enough to skull like to paint it that way., so at least one of my test models has exposed bone.

Re: Lustria themed Vampires, now with WIP pictures!

I got my four test models pictured here below.

    008-1.jpg

Here’s a side by side with one of my living skirmishers. I took the same based colors that I used for the living skinks (Scorpion Green for the hide, Bleached Bone for the under belly, and Blood Red for the crest) mixed with a lot of graveyard Earth and a dash of Scorched Brown. Because I use Blood Red or Red Gore in most of my living LM models, I chose to mix the open wounds on the zombies with warlock purple/blood red. I painted the eye sockets black to make the gouged out eyes more visible. I didn’t tarnish the weapons or anything because the zombies are “fresh.” Most weapons are broken though, including the broken spikes glued on the one’s shield.

    009-1.jpg

Both the guys below have half a limb replaced with a broken javelin. The one on the left has a blade for a foot and the one on the right has a blade for a forearm (the intact arm is gripping a whole javelin).

    003-1.jpg

The other two are side by side below. The one armed guy on the left has the biggest exposed wound, All of them have little purple wounds in several places, but this is the only good view I got my crappy camera to show. The one on the left has the literally melted face. I painted a spot on its head to show some exposed skull (barely visible in this picture).

    002.jpg

I plan to make at least sixteen more so I can field a full unit of zombies for Storm of Magic games. I plan to mix some Saurus zombies in the mix. I found out this afternoon that if I leave off a Saurus leg and cut off half the tail, a Saurus will fit okay on a 20 mm base. I glued a mace for a spikey peg leg for the Saurus zombie amputee. Since I have more plastic standard bearer bits than I know what to do with I plan to make a Saurus zombie into a standard bearer. I figure I’ll split the snake totem down the center and have the two halves droop to the sides. I don’t think I’ll bother with a musician. More pictures will follow in the next two weeks or so, as I have more to present. Once I get enough zombies, I’ll move on the Corpse Cart and perhaps spirit hosts.

If I can get my VC player to get a few pics of his zombie skinks I'll post them up. They're quite effective. No conversion work, just creative painting.
