My friendly local warhammer club is doing a warhammer fantasy campaign where the army is 2000 points with the extra rule you have to choose a named general and he has 250 pts off his cost, and he is the general regardless of the leadership of anyone else in the army

if the general is killed on the field of battle then the next battle you face you are down the number of points into the 2000 (and lord or hero slots) he costs over the 250.

my question is who would you take from the lizardmen book and some ideas to the make up of the army he would lead?

slann is the way to go, when played properly he wouldnt ever die
i played over 50 battles with a slann in 8th edition and he was never been killed :)

Since you get 250pts off the cost, you may want to actually look at Mazdamundi or Kroak. If you have to have named character from the Lizardmen book. If that is not the case, you should tool up a slann for it. For 250 free points, you can make the slann a real pain in the a$$ for your opponents.

My slann that leads my army (ies) is name Ueman.

Thanks all, yes i need to have a named character from the book

was wondering about using tetto'eko, since the impact of losing him would be 5pts, and leave me free to take a slann with 500 pts of tricks

there is something about a slann on a steg that draws me, but does he have enough defense? close combat no probs, magic and shooting not so sure

Both Mazdamundi and his mount have a 4+ Ward save. I'd say that's decent enough protection without even counting high toughness and the potential protection afforded by the lore you choose.

Would Mazdamundi get the 2+ armour save from an ancient steggie or just the 6+ from being mounted on a monster?

Just finished a test game with lord mazdamundi and tetto'eko both on the field, happy ish with both of them

as far as i am concerned lord mazdamundi's defense is fine, getting charged by a hell cannon was a surprise, but i survived. (to explain i charged a unit wiped it out, overran as otherwise i would have been charged in the flank and the player rolled high on the random movement distance for the hellcannon when it went wild)

however i'm going to go with tetto'eko for the campaign for the following reasons

1 a slann and a steg do diffrent jobs in an army, so that a slann on a steg are in the wrong place for at least one of the general, bsb, caster, big charging beastie, if not 3 out of the 4
2 a non named slann can change to fit the opponent, and take the focused rumination for free power dice
    3 i like a steg with EOTG
4 tetto'eko has an ability to re deploy units (as far as i am aware) with out affecting 1st turn meaning i got to create a mismatch in my favour
    5 comet rerolling
6 teclis like ability for 1 turn on heavens 5 and 6 mean one comet is inbound
7 points value if i lose tetto'eko i have 255 pts less to make my army for my next battle, if i lose lord mazdamundi i lose 620

why not look at giving chatax (sp?) a go if you have to use a named charactor- always strikes first with a great weapon so strength 7- forces opponents to use mundane versions of their magical weapons and it pretty solid
