I have decided to set up a plog in an attempt to keep some sort of painting routine! I have previously posted a tester model up on this board and the army list I am planning to use in the site also. Basically its a stegadon heavy non Slaan list....bit odd I know in the current addition or Warhammer but I am hoping that it will give most armies a solid run for their money! The list in a nutshell is: Oldblood Bsb Level 3 on Engine of the Gods 33 Saurus, including sone sort of unit filler to give a bit of character 3 x 10 skirmishing skinks with blowpipes 3 Stegadons, planning to use the metal models for these so as not to have 5 of the same model. 1 Ac Stegadon, the plastic model I am hoping to get the saurus unit finished before the end of March. I am looking for comments and ideas as the project progresses Here is so far........ The bases I am planning on using.
The bases are something I made for a Nurgle army before. For these ones I wanted a less uniform colour, found it worked mixing pva, army dipper and some colours together. Tried not to totally mix them which gives it slightly different colours up close. The balls are just little balls of green stuff
Well had my first tester games for the list against a hard DE list. Decided that I may need to boost the saurus to a horde, so...... Home made movement tray and a large 9x9 base for a unit filler, was thinking some sort of prisoners/slaves?? Maybe some sort of cage on the back of a Steg? Its the saurus done to a gaming standard now so have decided to try and plow on with the core and start on the skinks..... Original list did not have any javilin skinks but in the second game did find them a nice little bonus in combat with harpies etc... So as it stands at the moment since the start of March I have done 30 Saurus, based but not magnitised 10 Skinks, not based Think I will plow on with the 20 more skinks so that only leaves me with the fun stuff!! As before comments and ideas welcome
Well onwards and upwards, thirty skinks finished and thirty saurus too. I now have the aim of an even in mid April to atleast get the army painted and based to a decent standard. I have began on the three baby stegs using a green and blue scheme, planning on using the same for ancients but in darker colours. In the mean time I have finished the Lord of the army. He is a nightmare to fit in a unit!!! To such a level the space beside him now needs to be an empty base just to fit him in! The swords are due to him using the Fencers Blades in the original army list I wrote
Lovely paint job. I really like the Saurus Warriors and since I'm gonna throw myself at 20 of these badboys as soon as I'm done with my Temple Guards, I was wondering if you'd care to list some of the basic colors/washes you used? Still not certain if I'm going with a similar theme, but it's always good to get some inspiration. Another thing is, I was wondering if you'd mind spilling some of your secrets? Probably not a secret to most of you guys , but I'm a newbie painter. On you saurus warriors you made the middle of their scalps around the horns alot darker. How do you do that? You've also done it on some of the gold around the edges. Anyway really good job, skinks are cool to but I really like the saurus warriors.
he is really bad-ass tbh its a shame that fighty characters arent really optimal at the moment, otherwise i would have to get me one of those guys too.
Great job on the colour scheme, it really works! Also, I like how you used the inverted colours for Skinks. How did you paint your yellow? I tried painting my Cold One in yellow and dark grey, and really struggled with the yellow (you can see the result here: http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/caprasauridaes-lizardmen-finished-woogitoxigor.9002/), so any tips you want to share will be appreciated. And I agree with Lord Tsunami, that Lord is truly bad-ass! The blades look wicked, like they would easily sever limbs and heads. Maybe not the effect Fencer's Blades give, but who cares. Anyway, thanks for sharing and please keep posting more!
Thanks for the replies and comments. The skinks and sauras are painted with Gory Red, Sun Yellow, Orange fire, Bright bronze basic. The yellow is highlighted with a Sun yellow and white mix, the red with the orange. I have found the white undercoat makes a massive difference to the way the yellow works. The models are washed with Devlen mud also and touched up. Only other thing is on both I did yellow first as I did not want the red to go over on to the white and darken the undercoat.
The skinks finished on their movement trays, tried to add a bit of the swamp effect running through it
Little happier with these now the troops are in....want them all to look slightly different so one is missing a tail, one there is a skink on the floor beside the howdah and the third has the new style crew. Think with the skinks on board they tie in a lot better with the army in general as they are very different coulr-wise from the troops. Any comments on these or the army over all are welcome
The finished mage, as it stands he is still on foot in the list trying not to die before using hie scroll!
I have added 6 Camos to the list and wanted to see what I could do with the plastic skink kit. I know several people use them with their fin cut off but I have tried to add the eyes to them. Would be interested in peoples opinions about them....
They certianly look different than the skinks you started with. Maybe more spots for chamo color or at a long tonuge? Just suggestions they look pretty good. As for the baby stegs cool colours but I'd dirty them up a little bit. Looks pretty clean and vibrant
Good shading on the chameleon's green. They're certainly camouflaged, but real chameleons can also be really vibrant, with spots, stripes, and blending colours. The conversion looks fine, definitely different from regular skinks, so no one can pull you up about that. They could definitely have a little more 'pop' on them, though; something to make them stand out.
ill get you some pics of mine, i origionally went for aYellow and Grey look but decided it doesnt really work, the best way is grey with yellow scales, anyway back to the OP- im loving the lord excellent work, and the skinks look really effective on the skirmish base mine are now a brighter yellow for the skinks a more dirty browny yellow for the saurus and even darker shade for the Krox
