I drilled holes in the blowpipes for my chameleon skinks, I just think it looks better.

Drilling space marine weapons ---> mandatory
Drilling weapons on any other 40k/fantasy/AOS race ---> optional

In my opinion it does look better... but I painted all my skinks long before I owned a hobby drill and I am not going back to fix it! :D

Or you can paint the hole with a very dark version (almost black) of the main color you used for the pipe. Then make another circle inside that's black. This will look enough from afar and will save you some time maybe.

What drill did you use for that?

Standard hobby drill I bought at a craft store years ago (Hobby Lobby/Michaels/AC Moore):

If it had a brand I can't find it on the drill itself.

It came with a few dozen drill bits that cover everything from the standard Space Marine-sized boltgun to the tiniest gobbo-pistol.

@Warden how do you hold the model in place to be drilled? A vice seems like it would break the model...

I don't use a vice, just my hands (model in one hand, drill in the other).

The it's a hand drill, so the drilling force is as strong or soft as the force you apply with your hand. It can be a bit tricky, but if you test on an extra piece of plastic first you can easily get the hang of it.

If you need, I find it easier to conduct the drilling before you even assemble the model; and for larger holes make a smaller hole in the center first so you don't accidentally drill off center.
