I like dinos, you like dinos, we ALL like dinos. Anything can go here, from a dino meme, a drawing, cool photo. Pretty much anything dinosaur related it has a place here. one rule I would like to make sure of though; if you disagree with someone factually, have a calm discussion and do not flame each other. lets start out with a bit of a fever dream/ deep web thing i've fallen in love with a scale model of AMNH 973 (left) and 5027 (right) fighting over the corpse of an edmontosaurus (what was called at the time trachodon). While Osborn wanted this mount for the tyrannosaur specimens, but was held back by technological limitations of holding heavy fossils and the lack of material for both specimens. However we did get this wonderful description of the scene Spoiler: description It is early morning along the shore of a Cretaceous lake four million years ago. A herbivorous dinosaur Trachodon venturing from the water for a breakfast of succulent vegetation has been caught and partly devoured by a giant flesh eating Tyrannosaurus. As this monster crouches over the carcass, busy dismembering it, another Tyrannosaurus is attracted to the scene. Approaching, it rises nearly to its full height to grapple the more fortunate hunter and dispute the prey. The crouching figure reluctantly stops eating and accepts the challenge, partly rising to spring on its adversary. The psychological moment of tense inertia before the combat was chosen to best show positions of the limbs and bodies, as well as to picture an incident in the life history of these giant reptiles While we wouldnt get this exact stand, we would later get something similar and a bit more up to date from this carnegie mount (although this is still not fully up to date, see sue ) so i'll leave the first person to come in with a question, what is your favorite dinosaur?
I always had a soft spot for Triceratops. Big and peaceful but kinda menacing looking, it can defend itself. But I also dig Compsognathus. I don't know why, but a housecat-sized nimble predatory dinosaur just is a cool concept for me.
Tough question... there are a lot of dinosaurs I like. I am not so keen on the (in my eyes) overrated T-rex, but nonetheless like it when I get to see the skeleton of one Among the flying dinosaurs I quite like the Archaeopteryx. For the land bound dinosaurs it most likely is the Ankylosaurus Grrr, Imrahil
Although it might be purely from the marketing of Jurassic Park, my favourite will always be the T-Rex.
I was always more about all the flying dinos, them also having an interesting impact on our culture. And yes I think about dragons, likely the myth of them coming from ancient/medieval people excavating those mysterious flyers and weaving all the legends we know up to this day
Could have sworn there was an old one (and I found it here) but its been laid to rest since 2017. Time to talk about dinosaurs more!! As a kid my biggest dino favorites were Tyrannosaurus Rex of course, with my other being the not-quite-a-dinosaur Dimetrodon. Looks a lot like the old version of salamanders... part of the reason I painted one from Ghost Archipelago! Another big favorite is dilophosaurus! I liked this guy before I saw jurassic park, and always wondered why he was so tiny in that movie. Eventually I need to paint my Lizardmen version.
some dino photography! @Warden nteresting you mention dilophosaurus as it recently got a pretty awesome face loft by Brian Engh He has some good stuff on the subject, I would recommend his “a modern look at dilophosaurus”
I didn't think pterodactyls were not unearthed until modern times. I always believed the theory that dragons were a purely imagined amalgam between snakes, large cats, hawks, and perhaps alligators, the major apex predators.
Meet dryptosaurus, yes it is related to trex. That said I don’t know how accurate this semi cursed restoration is
Something to think about, is our representation of Dinosaurs accurate? I am not in any way endorsed by them, but their new calendar is full of amazing Dinosaur art!! (and they have some more clips on Dinosaurs) Grrr, Imrahil
