Hey all, As promised I'm starting a painting log. My first lizard was a skink priest from the Stegadon kit made to go with my future skirmishers. I'm also experimenting a lot with the new Contrast paints, and should soon have some Temple Guard to show off as well. Seems like Contrast will be a particularly great boon to Lizardmen.
Just a little update today. Thought I'd need at least some terrain to make a board look Lustrian so put together this tiny temple/watchtower/folding fortress. Skink Priest for scale.
Currently putting the basic colours on about 30 Saurus Warriors. For those interested in Contrast painting lizardmen, here's my shield method. Wraithbone --> Blood Angels Red --> Skeleton Horde
Today a Scar-Veteran/Oldblood. Needs a few touches to be finished but would be happy to play with him now at least.
Making slow but steady progress on my saurus. Getting the basic colours on then tidying up. Took the approach of doing a unit of 26 all at once! Progress so far:
Thanks! Knew I was going to do quite a lot so played around till I got it how I liked. Thanks to the conversion tutorial I'm now also the proud owner of some chameleon skinks! Going to base the army largely like this but gave them a few bonus shrubs to hide behind.
Dang those look great too! I like the color scheme you have chosen, not just for the chameleons themselves but the entire work as a whole, mini, bases, and basing materials. Well done
A break from the little guys - my first big dinosaur completed. Got a Stegadon in the works as well, but suspect this beast will be prettier.
Great use contrast paints. It makes me really tempted to try them for my black shields. Great inspiration material here! Do you apply the red generously then let it fill in the recesses?
Exactly, then skeleton horde a little less generously once the red is totally dry. The Bastiladon skin is much the same approach, with a yellow base and skeleton horde to slightly darken the recesses.
Some nice work there There's something about the red sand that makes me think of a tennis court, so now I'm imagining your models playing tennis
I went a bit quiet, but have returned! Played my first games with Lizardmen and this Skink Priest was MVP by far. Cast Comet of Cassandora first turn, it didn't appear until six magic phases later. He was scooting around trying to help some beleaguered temple guard and the comet finally hit. It blasted skinks, a stegadon, the priest himself and a miraculously low number of temple guard and absolutely savaged loads of beastmen units, ultimately securing me the win. He was painted to a very basic standard but got an upgrade after that!
And now my WIP Slann. He has so far been very unlucky, but I firmly believe it will improve once he is painted.
