I have had a tendency lately to think of things, think you guys would like to hear or discuss them, but decide not to post them because they are not appropriate on my blog.

Ergo, I'm opening a thread to dump them in and give me a place where I might generate some discussion.

This thread is dedicated in memorial to my continual crusade against @NIGHTBRINGER's shaggy from scooby-doo level of a post count.

    To start us odd:

This is a flat red primer by rust oleum.

It's a lovely brown-red if anyone is interested in that

    Both with and without flash.

Is there any thread left where one of you haven't mentioned Chaos Dwarfs in one way or the other?

I would say it is more of a brown than a red, but nice colored coat.
For what colorschemes would you say this is beneficial?

Anything brown, as I'm sure skaven would love the red tones in the fur.

I would assume many color schemes in red would love it. I have a khorne scheme for my commission client that I was specifically interested in using it for.

If anyone ever tells you the 3D printing is an easy side job, leave immediately.

There is a lot of work that goes on with making sure things get made correctly. There's also small twinges of annoyance every time there is a failure.

The furthermore, you're playing with your health. Volatile organic compounds otherwise known as vocs are potentially carcinogenic and you really need a separate space and an enclosure to run a printer correctly.

Those are fireforge templar/teutonic knight/ etc infantry.

Fireforge had a habit early on of making a selection of say, 5 body types, and using them to make 3-4 different boxed sets.

It works, but it's lazy and uninspired.

Fine line sharpies are the God's gift to sculptors and converters.

Sharpie the fuck out of that armor plate.

Mark that precise angle cut you want to make on that big sword.

Not like anyone will notice after primer

I agree that it's lazy, Gripping Beast are the same even now (I was most disappointed that their Dark Age Welsh box used 80% of the sprue that originated in their Dark Age Irish box, particularly as those bodies look too primitive for Dark Ages Britons), but so long as the bodies are decent then there's not much to worry about. It's just irritating that they didn't make use of the full potential of the different subjects in the different boxes to make them as unique as possible.

Frankly its wasteful. If you are going to spend north of 10 grand tooling a steel sprue, spend the extra 500 and get new bodies commissioned.

Regarding the red spray primer from earlier in the thread:

I realized that it is literally "madder red" or an extremely close match to the most widespread variant.

Madder red is a color associated with the red pigments used to color British infantry uniforms.

Due to prolonged sun exposure and general wear this dye would fade to a brick red color.

Which is what this primer is.

Which means that if you want to paint a napoleonic British army, this is literally a one-step, two with highlights, on the coats.

Which is an insane time saver.

And certain 19th century french, because they refer to madder red as turkey red.

Upon further research, this would most likely make an excellent base for Roman armies of antiquity.

Not necessarily gaming based, but definitely gaming related.

One of the biggest things I have found with being a hobby business owner is that I have to be adaptable.

I had a printer fail last night. It failed in an interesting way that I've never seen before.

Basically, the central section of the LCD did not light up for about 50 layers. I don't know if this was a corruption of the file, or an LCD issue, or what.

So I'm down to one printer, but I'm also planning on maintenance and repair today.

Meanwhile, I have been talking up my resale products in order to push orders that way it helps that I have a new sprue on pre-order.

I also have plenty of painting commission work I could do.

Ergo, I've got about five different directions I can go today and I'll still feel like I'm getting some sort of work done.
