Hey guys I am painting a Emperors champion for a friend of mine and he has this cool sounding weapon called a black sword.

I am trying to paint it with metallics as the rest of his army is also painted that way.

Any ideas on how to make a metallic black color?

First, use a layer of 1:1 mix of Chaos Black and Boltgun Metal. Then a 1:1 mix of Chainmail and Tin Bitz, then a heavy wash of Badab Black, and then a final highlight coat of Chainmail. That should do the trick.

The other way is to highlight the chaos black with fairly light greys so it looks like light, then use a few layers of gloss varnish. My friend has done some armour like that and it looks really cool. A glossy lacquered look.

I would be quite interested to see how asrodrig's idea works though, I can't imagine the colour it would make.
