Hi all, My friend and I just started up on AoS and play Seraphon and Lumineth respectively. First match is up in a couple of weeks, we play at first 500 and 1000 pts battles. I know he has archers and riders, how do you reckon I build my lists? Hope you will help me lay of shore with a win this is important Cheers, Nikolaj
Decide if u wanna go saurus or skinks. If saurus then 1-2 SC boxes is a solid start. If skinks then maybe 1 box of SC or just buy some skinks, some heroes and some skink support units (sallies, terradons, cammos).
I would go starborne fangs of Sotek vs lrl. - bravery 10 shuts down the most annoying spells - you dont need -1 dmg reduction - he will just kill your skinks / saurus in melee with his riders -> an overwatch shot can change the whole game and an option to escape on 4+ is pretty good So i would build around skinks, starpriest and chameleon skinks. Keep your skink heroes as save as possible. (His archers don't need to see you and can shoot 30" doing mortals on 5 and 6 rerolling ones if he buffs them.)
The problem with Lumineth is that they cannot bring much but competitive stuff even if they want a fun game. All of their units are strong, just not broken. So, unless you bring some good stuff to counter their tricks, you will struggle. As mentioned, Starborne a way better against lumineth, since they can easily capitalize on Coalesced weaknesses and doesn't care about their strengths. Kroak or Slann are essential, because they can unbind Power of Hysh. To actually deal damage you want mortal wounds and high rend. So skinks with starpriest, chameleons, salamanders and terradons are all good. Beware the cavalry, since they can easily wipe out units with low wound characteristics. Archers don't do much damage, but their damage are mortal wounds and pretty consistant. Perfect for killing characters. In smaller games bastiladon can be good damage dealer because of high range, rend and 2 damage. But it can cripple to wounds quickly. Just be careful and don't give up heroes. Try to deal with archers and cavalry first, then finish off wardens.
You will want to obtain a Lord Kroak by the time they start running Teclis. Bound geminids are also fantastic as is BwV. It will force Tec to decide which endless spell to dismiss.
Ive forced Bound Geminids to be targeted a couple times, but yeah, LrL are very good at shaking mortal wounds while they castled around Teclis. I've gotten pretty lucky with unbinds so far and stopped the Storm of White Light all but once. My opponents normally opt for 4 spells though.
Yeah, its really frustrating for the oponent. I play lrl at the moment. I dish out mortal wounds through teclis and sentinels while making his best unit useless with -3 bravery and cathallar warscrollspell. I feel lrl sometimes make a game feel really bad for both players.
Honestly, the biggest feel bad is the lore of the mountain spell that doubles the CP cost of abilities. A spattering of d6 MWs isn't too devastating. I find Kroak's Celestial Deliverance to be much more consistent as a damage source.
I casted darkness of soul on 10 chaos knights with -3 bravery... my oponent was really sad. You bought build and painted those dollys, sorry you can't play with them. :-/ that in addition to total eclipse as you said just steals the fun of some enemy armies. (I switch to ogors for the next couple of games . )
Thanks all - as far as 500pts goes I have managed to shut him down with a bastilla TL army. Bam Going for FoS with lots of skinks, sallies and maybe slann/Kroak? How would you recommend to put the list together?? Thanks a lot!
