I am new to war hammer and I have bought a few models now. I have 10 skinks armed with a javelin and shield. What part of their warscroll do I follow? Are these Melee units only or do they also throw the javelins? Also do I need an alpha model in this unit?
Javelins are used both ranged and in melee, so in the shooting phase you use the line for javelins in the "missile" section, and in the combat phase you use the line for javelins in the "melee" section. And yes you should have an alpha model. Just mark him in some way, like with an additional decoration on his shield, or another color on the crest. That one gets 3he extra attack in melee.
