Hi all! So I just joined last week and I'm waiting for some extra lizzies to arrive. I've yet to start painting my current Starter Box as I'd like to work on everything at once. Ambitious I know, but I'd like a challenge. Currently my project will consist of the following: 40x Saurus warriors with spears 15x Saurus knights with spears 2x Scar-vets on cold one (from converting) 1x Old blood on Carnosaur Undecided between 1x scar-vet on Carnosaur Vs skink on Troglodon (I guess which would be most effective in a battle for coalesced army) 1x Skink priest Potentially 1x Slann As I hinted in the title, I aim to have my army be snow/tundra/ice themed and I was wondering if anybody has done something like it before. I've looked at a few "colours of the tundra" as color schemes and I have mine relatively well thought out, it won't be simply white, but lots of Grey's, whites and blues. Any suggestions, advice or if you just want to give your ideas about the "lore" of such a force, would be be nice. Rawr!
Sounds like a great idea for a theme, I'm intrigued and shall be watching, and far as I have seen, or at least remember, you are the first to go with that theme. Maybe some inspiration if you are looking for such, could be illustrations of creatures from the ice age, to fit the theme.
Nice theme to the army. Recently someone came along with a mountain themed army which might be usefull to take a look at ... I'll try to find it for you so I can link it For other inspiration you could look at some Ogor/Beastclaw raiders armies, mist of those are snow themed. I am interested to see how it will turn out. Keep is updates. Good luck Grrr, Imrahil
Found it, it is from @DenDamian. He used the snowy theme on the bases and picked not to bright colors for the units, to show their background. So not quite what you are aiming for(Grey, White and light Blue colors) but you could get some inspiration off of it. Grrr, Imrahil
Uuuuuh, awesome. Thanks for finding it. It's definitely something I can take inspiration from. Paint job was good too, but the colors will be different from this for sure. I set my goal to have the forces complete by the end of August. So stay tuned. Plus, I'm creating a sort of lore/story around this force and how they ended up the way they did. Rawr!
Tiny progress report: I've done the two big boys as well as my knights on the derpy boys. I didn't assemble all of knights precisely because it will be difficult to reach them behind the shield and the saddles. Otherwise, happy how this is coming along, next will likely be my warriors Saurus warriors, and I'm awaiting for my Lord Kroak and Saurus Sunblood to arrive.
Finally finished the assembling and basing the Saurus 40x, first time I've ever prepared this many miniatures at once and will be also be the first time I will have to paint as many. Looking forward to seeing some color after they're primed.
Nice bunch of Sauri. I like the front row with the spears down. Something I have to remember for when I assemble my new warriors Good luck keeping motivated during painting Grrr, Imrahil
It's been a long while and I've been way behind my army update and posting on Lustria. Hope the Old Ones forgive me. But thus far, I've only finished a test model for my Knight on a Cold One, which will be the rubric for the rest of the army. I'd say on the whole it achieved somewhat the look and feel I was going for, but once his buddies done they will look much more solid as a unit/contingent. Please give me your honest feedback, and what you think should be changed, improved, modified, etc. Thanks and Rawr!
Looks good! The overall colour scheme works well. I would say maybe pick out the metal details on the spines and head crest in gold to break up the amount of flat white on the upper parts of the model though
Thank you for suggestion! I was also thinking that the spine spikes & horn/frill could use a different color, however, aren't those parts supposed to be bone or hide and not gold? At least from what I've seen in other minis they are rarely painted gold or something metallic.
On some of the sculpts there are metal plates in parts of the head crest and on some of the spines. Here's a pic of some of my Saurus to illustrate. And a pic where I've circled what I can make out on your mini that could be metal plate. I'm less sure about the spine that I've circled, it's hard to tell with that one.
Aaah I see it now, greatly appreciate for taking the time to elaborate. I will modify it and apply it to the next warriors as well. Again thanks a lot for taking the time to comment! Rawr!
So taking the feedback from Explodingzeb, I adjusted the little guy, and I have to say he looks A LOT better. Plus I managed to add 2 new friends for him which gave me the chance to further refine the painting process for the army, and with some left-over dry ice from my Halloween party I took the opportunity to do a little photo-op. Let me know what you think, and if there are any further recommendations or critiques you can provide it would be much appreciated. Rawr!
Well done sir, well done. I like the colors of your Cold-ones and am a fan of the freehand glyphs on de heads of the riders Grrr, Imrahil
Much appreciated, the glyphs are something I'm doing sort of at random, but they look pretty. While the Cold-Ones are inspired by a furry animal of the north. I will share the color scheme once I'm done with the whole army. Rawr!
