    Hey gang -

Currently moving away from 40k in favour of getting back into AoS, but haven't played since the Fantasy to AoS retcon. I've seen that it's now legal in specific circumstances to run Stegadons as Battlelines, what is the 'best' list to go with if I want to be running big stompy boys only?

Currently I have on hand (Easy to buy other models, but just want to get opinions)

1 x Stegadon with Engine of The Gods
2 x Stegadon with SkyStreak Bows
2 x Bastiladon with Solar Engine
1 x Saurus Old Blood on Carnosaur

According to me the best option is one bastilladon and one Carno
2 bastilladon, (dépending on the opponent of course) but it's kind of rough for him

    Welcome to Lustria.

Lots of Steggos and one or two Bastilladons. Skink Chief on Steggo is much better than EotGs.

So you don’t think it’s worth running the Carno at all over more Stregadons?

The Skink Chief can be a general as well I’m assuming

Yep, I would just run a Steggo. The great bow, the steggadon combat attacks, and the collision mws are just better than Carnos imho.

I agree with lizardwizard, stegs have better damage output than carnos because they have rend on all their attack profiles and have more attack profiles so when you give them a +1 attack buff you get extra attacks out of it so it's more efficient. Carnos were better in koatls claw builds because their buffs were good but KC is looking rough based on preliminary opinions of the 3rd edition rules

What about the +1 jaw for 5 dégât rend -1
With prime War beast you have also +1 attack on the Monster
You Can have+1 hit for a cp
That make 5 attacks on jaw rend -1 on 3+ deg 5 looks better than Steg, with more expérience both of you préfer Steg ?

Btw I never hit with the bow, kind of a malédiction, maybe this IS why I préfer thé Carno

Ok so at a rough run I've got

    Stegadon with Skink Chief (250)
    3 x Stegadon with Skystreak Bow (240 x 3)
    2 Bastiladon with Solar Engine (220 x 2)

runs me up to 1410 points, if I add in the Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur (230) it goes to 1640. Should I just fill it out with another Stegadon (Engine of the Gods) and another Skystreak Bow, or are there other better options? I'm guessing that without Skinks Kroak isn't going to be too great, but his stats do look appealing. Thanks for all the input from everyone as well - been incredibly helpful :)

Kroak is always great ! Even with the New warscroll and his abilty to have 3 cp on a 4+ and his dispell he is worth it
Stellar tempest is good against horde
And his signature sort is very dangerous but only 10'' of reach, with the astrolith it's increase to 16'' and you Can cast it threw thé Troglodon
In V3 the combo Kroak + Troglodon is a real threat for your opponent

Well, the steg also gets an extra jaw attack from coalesced. In addition, prime warbeast gives +1 attack to all the mounts attack profiles, meaning since the steg has 3 different melee profiles it gets 3 extra attacks while the carno only gets 2. Prime warbeast also gives an extra attack to the bow shooting attack because of how its worded. And the skink chief's command ability and the Great Drake asterism both add an attack to each melee profile so again the steg gains 6 additional attacks from this. I think overall the steg's damage is just more consistent since you have more attacks that all rend and inflict multiple damage instead of relying on just the carnosaurs jaws which are its only threatening attacks

Thank for the explanation, I Guess I am too focus on dégât and not enought on the number of attacks

A couple comments here. I probably wouldn't bother with the oldblood carno unless you need to fill out points, it just doesn't synergise with what you have going on. It's also very likely that our big dinos will be going up in points with the new ghb, so you may want to wait a week or two to hone in on a list. We will only be able to use the TL command ability once per turn now so doubling up on 2 bastis or adding an EoTG might not be useful since we won't get the extra activations on all of them. I think kroak will be useful if you can get one just to generate some extra CP and unbind spells as Kakalou1 suggested. A Skink priest might be good as well, priests are getting better in 3rd edition in general, and you'd be able to use one to give a basti or steg +1 to hit with their warscroll CA in addition to giving something else +1 to hit with All Out Attack which seems useful since we can't use the same CA twice in the same phase anymore but he has his own +1 to hit CA
