Hello guys! I am new to war gaming, and painting and everything that this hobby includes. A month ago or so I bought a Start Collecting box for Seraphon and then the Starclaw Strikehost promo. I've checked this forum out a lot during this time, and I gotta say you guys are seriously awesome. I wanted to introduce myself, and show you what I've done so far! Please tell me what you think I haven't understand dry brushing yet (though I'll give it a good try with the skinks) and I didn't even start to think about bases, but I'm enjoying myself and taking my time. Anyway, hoping to post here and then and to hear opinions, critics and tips! I'm loving the hobby, and loving Seraphon. This is the 1st miniature I ever painted (the one with full gold helmet and shoulders), and also my 1st and only full unit. To the left, this is the second one I painted, a conversion inspired by a guide I saw here. To the right is Zorg, the test subject for trying out stuff. I did him recently, but he changes often. My 3rd miniature, kinda experimental but I'll (probably) leave him like that for the moment. Then I painted the saurus warriors unit and then I did Zorg. This is Lord Skal'terakk. I converted the crown last night, inspired in the Total War model. What do you think?
Finally, I am working on some skinks right now. I'm thinking about making the captain's arm out of gold, as if he lost and replaced it, I don't know. Thank you for the awesome forum !
The minis look really cool @Lord Skal'terakk! I like how you did the red patterns on the Saurus. Looks like war paint. I might be stealing that. Do you mind sharing what colors you used to paint the Seraphon & Skinks?
Thanks a lot! Sure, I bought the Stormcast Paints + Tools box and the Citadel Shade Paint Set, and then a few more pots to go with them. My colors are: Kantor blue, Sotek green, Retributor armour, Khorne red, Temple guard blue, Sybarite green as bases, and White scar for eyes, teeth and claws. Drakenhof nightshade, Agrax earthshade, Biel-tan green and Seraphyn sepia for the shades. Kantor blue for scales, with Drakenhof Nightshade for shade and then Kantor blue again without painting in-between them (I do them scale by scale, but more skillful and practical methods will surely work). I do that after every time I shade anything. For gold is Retributor armour with Seraphyn sepia as shade. Saurus: For the rest of the body I use Sotek Green as base and Biel-tan green as shade. The warpaints are Khorne red with Agrax shade. Skinks: The scales are as saurus, the rest is Temple guard blue, with Drakenhof shade. Thank you for commenting, it encourages me a lot
Welcome aboard, not bad going to say your a new painter, your a neat painter which is a really good starting block.
@Lord Skal'terakk I love how you named your guy Zorg. Seems like you have quite a fun personality and I am looking forward to more models. Btw what model type is Zorg?
I appreciate that. Since I'm an untested painter, it's nice to see some of these paint colors on a mini to get a better idea of what they look like. It's promising to see that you painted good looking minis, even with the "standard" GW method of base/shade/highlight (with your touches and a steady hand).
You flatter me haha I never painted before, but I'm having real fun with these. I even stopped playing videogames, and that's a first. I'll post more when I get them more done, sure! Zorg is a Saurus warrior body and shield with the head and sword of an old blood (the one that goes with carno). I have another better looking old blood, so he's basically my guinea pig. It's worked very well for me, and it's really not that hard. Paint, man! You're gonna love it, guaranteed
90% of my models are painted the GW way, the paint system they came up with is genius all you need is patience and you will create lovely models. Pushing it further is not needed for models you will play games with. Get some paint on your models we will hold your hand all the way.
Welcome! I gotta day I love the half and half war paint on the Saurus warrior face. Great looking army!
Nice job, I really like the converted Old Blood(the unpainted one ) Keep up the good work. Gr, Imrahil
I love that custom crown for Lord Skal'terakk. You clearly already have really strong creative instincts.
Kinda both! It's the bastiladon crown and I glued a lot of feathers to it. Glad you like it! You can see the painted version here: www.lustria-online.com/threads/lord-skalterakks-army-blog-soteks-bite.23180/
