I have a confession to make. I didn't play since GH2017 came out. Not with lizardmen at least (Khorne Bloodbound) But after some time i would like to go back to my saurus and skinks. There wille be a tournament, 1000 points. I have some ideas, but i cannot tell which is better. Every tipp will help. Here is one: Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur (280) - General - Trait: Mighty War Leader - Artefact: Coronal Shield Skink Priest (80) - Priestly Trappings Skink Starpriest (80) Battleline 40 x Saurus Warriors (360) - Spears 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers Units 1 x Salamanders (40) 1 x Salamanders (40) 3 x Skink Handlers (40) Total: 980 / 1000 Allies: 0 / 200 Wounds: 79 Second: Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur (280) - General - Trait: Disciplined Fury - Artefact: Coronal Shield Skink Priest (80) - Priestly Trappings - Artefact: Prism of Amyntok Skink Starpriest (80) Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100) Battleline 5 x Saurus Knights (100) - Lances - Seraphon Battleline 5 x Saurus Knights (100) - Lances - Seraphon Battleline 5 x Saurus Knights (100) - Lances - Seraphon Battleline Units 1 x Salamanders (40) Battalions Firelance Starhost (110) Total: 990 / 1000 Allies: 0 / 200 Wounds: 60
I think both are solid lists for 1k. The second one looks a bit more streamlined. With good rolls the Knights can be pretty deadly actually, I once rolled over some Ironjawz with that list. It is however low on wounds so a bit more prone to die from mortal wounds. The first list looks a bit like a mixed bag without many synergies bit the 40 Saurus and the Carno might scare people into making poor decisions.
I run almost exclusively knights as battleline despite a lot of peoples feeling on them ( I have been thinking about doing a breakdown of how I use my knights on here but alas time restraints). I love the knights and how they play. That being said after a TON of trial and error I think that firelance is just to inconsistent to consider running in almost every case. I have had much better luck dropping the battalion and buffing one of the knights units up to 10. Then you have more models with more wounds that deal more consistent damage. PS- in a 1k list think about the benefits of the Scar vet on carno vs the OB on carno. They both have a place but 40 more points in your pool to buy some more wounds is pretty nice with sallys and razors in the mix.
I don't like very much the fact that in your 2nd list you have just a Salamander alone (no handlers, not other Sallies): to me this hardly performs well... I honestly would - drop the Salamander - drop the Skink Priest (I don't like it because not so reliable) You now have a total of 130 pts to use as you prefer, 170 if you switch the Oldblood on Carno with a Scar-Vet on Carno, and another artifact to give to one of your characters. These points could be spent for - 1 handlers unit and 2+1 Salamanders/Razordons [artillery and table control] or - Chameleons [shooting] - Kroxigors [raw power against infantry] - Flying unit [enemy artillery/mages hunt] - 2 Skinks units and a Razor [meat shields/defensive options]. (These are my personal preferences, I don't know if they are the most optimal choice though) Please, it would be really interesting to read such a breakdown: take your time, of course, but if you can try writing it (even if it isn't in the most esplicative way ever)! It could help lots of players (including me) use our knights in a more efficient way, and maybe people would start valuing them more than it is now!
I've made some changes in the first list. Dropped the sallies for better mobility to ge those objectives Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur (280) - General - Trait: Mighty War Leader - Artefact: Coronal Shield Skink Priest (80) - Priestly Trappings Skink Starpriest (80) Battleline 40 x Saurus Warriors (360) - Spears 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers Units 3 x Ripperdactyl riders (140)
I might sound like a broken record, but I feel like the old blood on a carno is a bit of a miss in this list when compared to the Scar-vet on a carno. Without more Saurus heroes you aren't getting the full mileage out of the OB's command ability. While the Scarvet's Command ability works pretty well with a block of 40 warriors. I know the OB does a bit more damage and the possibility of a 6 damage bit is nasty but without the shield isn't quite as durable (even with the priests). If you are dead set on the OB maybe try to fit another Saurus hero or 2 in the list. The skink priest plus starpreist combo to make the 40 block a lot tougher is a nice idea to try to cover a weakness of theirs, but their real strength is in offense Astrolith and OB on foot are both options to think about here. Despite my tips I do like the list. I think it's down fall might be in it's lack of synergies. A fully buffed OB on carno is something to fear at 1k though that is for sure. I have ran it a few times to great effect. Let us know as you start getting some games in with your stuff. I'm sure everyone would love to hear about your experiences!
Thanks! I will consider the veteran, indeed it may be a better idea. I will post the results alfter some battles, stay tunned!
The tournament is over and the children of the Old Ones were victorious! My final list was: Allegiance: Seraphon Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (240) - General - War Spear - Trait: Mighty War Leader - Artefact: Coronal Shield Skink Starpriest (80) Skink Starpriest (80) 40 x Saurus Warriors (360) - Clubs 20 x Skinks (120) - Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers 5 x Chameleon Skinks (120) Total: 1000 / 1000 Allies: 0 / 200 Wounds: 85 The first Battlefielda was against Ironjawz. Maw crusha, 10 ardboyz, 3 gore-gruntaz, warchanter, warboss on foot. The scenario was battle for the pass. He begin agressivly, with a charge of his maw crusha into my saurus warriors. The casualtes were high, luckly, i used inspiring presence before that. With double turn for orks, he added the ardboys to the party. Luckly for me, the saurus warriors with saurian savagery were able to take the maw crusha down. On the other flank my scar veteran was missing every hit possible, but luckly for me, the sinks were capturing objectives. Droping chameleons on his rear, on the most valiable objestive was the nail to his coffin. He was stuck in melee, and while he finally killed the warriors, the vp difference was to high 27:14 Second, mirror match. Firelance with scar-vet on carno, knights with lances, starpriest, 3 kroxigors, 20 skinks. Scorched earth While my opponent did made some mistakes (putting skinks behind kroxi, instead of screening, charging with only one unit of knights into my warriors with buffs) my dice throws were really lucky. I simply took his initial blow, kill the attacking knights and wipe out the rest with a counter-attack. It was over in round 4. 14:5 We had an odd number of players, so i get a bye. But, luckly, the stormcast player, my most serious threat for the crown lost against Ironjawz, so i was pretty calm about my victory. And i was right to do so.
Excellent stuff! Glad to see us threatening again. Did you find people underestimating you, or fearing you?
Good question! Judging by the Internet people seem to not see us as a threat at all except if we play Thunderquake or Kroaknado. I wonder what everyone else's experience is. @Buldi good job! At that point value one error can cost you a game and it seems you played your list well.
Well, i dont think i was underestimated. Or maybe? Had a quite long run of defeats playing bloodbound, hav'nt touched my lizzies in a year! I call it a good comeback B)
Next tournament in february, again 1000 points. I want to try something new. Thoughts? Allegiance: Seraphon Slann Starmaster (260) - General - Trait: Vast Intellect Engine of the Gods (220) - Artefact: Coronal Shield 5 x Saurus Guard (100) 40 x Saurus Warriors (360) - Clubs 10 x Skinks (60) - Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers Total: 1000 / 1000 Wounds: 72
Might work. But the Guard look a bit like the odd one out, no real synergies to buff them. I think I would rather play five Knights or a Starpriest.
Yeah, i didn' have the idea for filling up the last 100 points. Although,i expect a lot os shooting, especially from stormcast (wall of liberators, judicators, raptors with lomystroke crossbows, etherwings, castellan, relictor and celestant with stout defender). A priest would be an easy target.
