Slann Mage Prest (BSB, Becalming Cogitation, Necromancy)
Saurus Old Blood (Carnosaur, Talisman of Protection, Armour of Meteoric Iron)

    20 Temple Guard (Full Command)
20 Saurus Warriors (Spears, Full Command)
    10 Skink Skirmishers (Javs, Champion)
10 Skink Skirmishers (Javs, no champ)

    3 Kroxigor (Champion)
    3 Kroxigor (Champion)

    Troglodon

So basically the plan is to use the Necromancer to emphasise 2xterror and 2xfear. The Skinks will screen for the krox. If I need to lose a unit of skinks for a monster slaying sword, I can.

You have NO defense against war machine or shooting. Think about that ;)

I mean he has skinks. That is pretty good, they screen, give -2 to hit and cannons ain't that bad vs Sauri. I guess you should run more skinks, but skinks are literally the best unit in our book right now so that is basically a given right.

20 are too few in this case….

They are indeed -1 but probably give heavy cover to your other guys, hence they gi d -2 to hit. 20 is probably not enough though, I agree with that

Wait are you visible behind a skirmish screen? It’s not cover… in the old version you couldn’t shoot between units, have they changed this rule?

If he's up against a War Machine-playing army, he can sub out one of his Necromancy spells for Monsoon from the Lore of Lustria. That plus the Skirmisher screens will be all that he needs.

Likely I'd take it twice, probably won't get it off that often with the level 1 wizard though.

Slann Mage Prest (BSB, Becalming Cogitation, Necromancy, lore familiar)
Saurus Old Blood (Carnosaur, Talisman of Protection, shield, Blade of Revered Tzunki)

20 Temple Guard (Full Command, War Banner)
20 Saurus Warriors (Spears, Full Command)
    10 Skink Skirmishers (Javs, Champion)
    10 Skink Skirmishers (Javs, Champion)

    4 Kroxigor (Champion)

    Troglodon

    (1997 points)

Another variation on the same theme.

Edit as a note to myself I think I like the 5 point upgrade from war banner to prophecy so my TG can cause fear

    If tmy
If you lose the spears on your Saurus and your skink Champions, you can take the Totem on your TG and the War Banner on your saurus.

Can't take magic banners for plain ol' Saurus

Also personally I feel as though spears are necessary, I would hope with the extra attacks I'd get that +1 combat res anyway

If they could have such a banner I would probably drop the fourth krox for it, with some skinks for change

That's right. I forgot it was an error in The Old World Builder that let me do that. Just was messing around but you're right

I think I would actually sub two spearmen for two extra temple guard (so 22 and 18)

This is because fear is entirely based on unit strength so trying to ensure it's a high as possible is very important

I suspect overall the war banner will simply be better but clearly it's more of a theme choice

The war banner is indeed very good. I think the skavenpelt banner for the temple guard is also worth considering.

I can certainly see the appeal but I'm not quite convinced. Frenzy can be a liability. Admittedly, less so on an elite infantry unit.
