As I am brand new to WFB, I decided to try an all skink army. Most of the folks I game with look at me like I'm crazy, but I'm all about having a good time playing. So far I have: Skink Cheif Skink Priest 1x skink cohort with 24 skinks and 3 kroxigor 1x skink skirmishers with blowpipes 1x skink skirmishers with javelins Stegadon with great bow Razordon with crew Any thought s or ideas on how to make the best 1000 pt army from this? Thanks
Oh, good luck with that. Best leadership is at 6 I believe . You'd probably need Tehenhuin since at least he have Ld8 as far as I know. You also have very few good hitting power. The steg is alright, but the rest will die in droves. But I'm not really sure what the best solution is. The issue, the way I see it, is that should you come up against any horde army your skinks will die like flies, should you come up against anything heavily armoured you rely on your 3 kroxies and the one stegadon. hmm.. This might not be the most optimal, but one way to do it could be: Tehenhuin as your general. Skink Chief, BSB, dragon helm, light armour, shield. 1x skink cohort with 30 skinks and 3 kroxigor 1x 10 skink skirmishers with javelins. 1x 10 skink skirmishers with javelins. Ancient Stegadon with Sharpened Horns. Atleast it'll give you a decent wizard, but on the flipside the spells in this particular army will be a hit and miss. Try and get a hold on Wyssan's Wildform, Amberspear and Curse of Anhrarir, maybe consider transformation. Wyssans Wildform is, I suppose, to protect the kroxies (T4->T5) and a give a little extra punch from the skinks <.< Amber Spear big nasty monsters and hit them or monstrous cavalry with the ancient steg. Put Curse on units (particularly big ones!) that you dont want to move. It can be a nasty spell. I like themed lists, but you'll have to live with the drawbacks.
I think tetto eko is the way to go. The wyssans won't give too much, but comets and thunderbolts are good ways to drop some units. Blizzard gives the enemy -1 to hit those Kroxigors, which is probably better than 5 toughness. Maybe some salamanders in case that doesn't work for hordes.
If your general was in a unit with the Kroxigors, would he benift from their leadership 7, in the same way as benifitting from the leadership banner?
that's true, but his inspiring presence would still only be be his base LD (unless you've got said standard of discipline)
So no, the inspiring presence wouldn't be boosted a la the banner? For example you couldn't add the banner into a Skrox unit /w Chief for Ld 8?
You would only boost that specific unit and not the inspiring presence. The rest of ther army would still be "Ld useless".
Thank you all for the good advice. The one good thing about the league I joined, is that the every point level I can choose a new army. So my idea of all skinks might give way to a mo balanced lizardman army.
I'm fairly confident that putting your general in a unit buffs the leadership of the general too. For example: Temple guard unit has the Banner of Discipline. Slann joins the unit of Temple Guard. The Slann also gains the benefit from the banner. Therefore, his leadership goes from 9 to 10. Inspiring Presence means other units get to use his leadership. While he is in that unit of Temple Guard, his leadership is 10, therefore his Inspiring Presence is leadership 10. The Banner of Discipline does say specifically that the unit carrying the banner does not benefit from the general's inspiring presence. However, the Slann is in the unit carrying the banner, which means he is not providing his leadership to the unit via inspiring presence. So the unit would also benefit from the leadership 10 of the Slann, as it is the highest leadership value in the unit. That being said, the only way we could get the same effect for the skinks, is by using a Skink Chief BSB, carrying a magical banner. That's bad though because the BSB will be as flimsy as a piece of tissue paper, and if you put the BSB in the unit of Skrox, well, they're already at LD 7 and the general (Tetto or Skink Priest) is only LD 6. So the Skrox would actually be LD 8 but the general's inspiring presence would be only 7. LD 7 is better than LD 6 but the way to get that is not worth it. That Skink Chief BSB would die in a round of combat against a smart player. So you really only have two options, Tehenuain, or Oxylotyl. Tehenuain is LD 8 but is fairly expensive, at 230 points. Oxylotyl is cheaper (don't remember what his points value is off the top of my head) but only LD 7. And he's not as tough as Tehenuain. Tehenuain at least has a 5++ ward save, but Oxylotyl has nothing. So my vote is Tehenuain. I have an all Skink list utilizing Stegadons. 3 Stegadon Ancients (one of them is a mount for a Skink chief BSB), and 2 regular Stegadons. But this is at 2500 points. Since you're making a list for 100 points, this is what I would do: Lords - 230 points Tehenuain Core - 280 points 4 units of 10 Skink Skirmishers w/ Javelins and Shields Special - 235 Points Stegadon w/ Sharpened Horns Rare - 250 Points Stegadon Ancient w/ Sharpened Horns P.S. I totally butchered Tehenuain and Oxylotyl. I don't actually know how to spell their crazy names.
It's a lot of fun! If you're building up to say 2500 points, this is the list that I use at 2500. It's missing Tehenuain or whatever his name is because the battlescribe file I'm using didn't have him in there for some reason but he fits perfectly in the 230 remaining points. +++ The Thunderous Herd (2270pts) +++ +++ 2500pt Lizardmen 8th Edition Roster (Standard)) +++ Selections: Lizardmen 8th Edition (Standard) Selections: + Heroes + (469pts) * Skink Chief (379pts) (Aquatic, Cold Blooded) Armor of Destiny, Battle Standard Bearer, Lustrian Javelin, Shield * Ancient Stegadon Sharpened Horns, Unstoppable Stampede * Skink Priest (90pts) (Aquatic, Arcane Vassal, Cold Blooded) Dispel Scroll + Core + (625pts) * Skink Skirmishers (70pts) * 10x Skink Skirmisher (70pts) 10x Javelin and Shield * Skink Skirmishers (70pts) * 10x Skink Skirmisher (70pts) 10x Javelin and Shield * Skink Skirmishers (70pts) * 10x Skink Skirmisher (70pts) 10x Javelin and Shield * Skink Skirmishers (70pts) * 10x Skink Skirmisher (70pts) 10x Javelin and Shield * Skink Skirmishers (70pts) * 10x Skink Skirmisher (70pts) 10x Javelin and Shield * Skinks (275pts) Musician, 49x Skink, Skink Brave, Standard Bearer + Special + (626pts) * Chameleon Skinks (78pts) 6x Chameleon (78pts) * Chameleon Skinks (78pts) 6x Chameleon (78pts) * Stegadon (235pts) Sharpened Horns * Stegadon (235pts) Sharpened Horns + Rare + (550pts) * Ancient Stegadon (300pts) Engine of the Gods, Sharpened Horns * Ancient Stegadon (250pts) Sharpened Horns
I finally got a game in with my skinks and demolished a dwarf army. Of course most of my luck was from the egg of quango. I won my first charge by 23 points. The only troublesome parts were the gyro copters. All told, I am liking my decision.
woah, just looked at your list. Lots of stegs there! Just one thing is thata chief can't take an ancient steg. he has to man the giant bow! I like the idea of stes running around everywhere. and glad it worked for you.
