Couldn't hurt, I had a hard time with him falling on his face all the time,
as he was a bit front heavy. also if he's a bit easier to assemble that would be a big plus.

they are some type of resin that makes them heaps lighter and better detail than any model made before, and apparently you no longer need to pin anything, bad news is this could be a good excuse to increase prices

GW marketing has been horrible to be honest. They literally said on facebook that staff were brought to tears at the quality. What rubbish. You look at the resin shot next to the painted old metal ones (which is ironic because the Eavy Metal painted examples are actually resin masters not metal anyway) and there is no difference in quality whatsoever. Actually, there is. Have a look close up at the Emperor's Champion model and you will see in the 'better' resin model there is a miscast on the cross!

    haha.jpg

Remember, these aren't standard for sale ones they are showing so far, these are hand picked as the best example sculpt they could find. There will be nowhere near the quality control on the ones we buy. The other one to have a close look at is Count Mannfred, at the bottom of tuesday's blog on the GW website. The knives next to his head are very very bent, and there is a big bubble (which happens in resin sometimes) on his hammer.

In addition, I can confirm that GW are increasing the prices of metal models being converted to resin, by up to 20%. Bloodknights box is going from 51GBP up to 60GBP. Ouch.

I still wonder what the justification for any price rise is, they should be going down in price. Resin is a much cheaper base material than tin so they save money, it is also lighter so cheaper to ship. Why the increase? If any of you have heard of Mantic Games (ran by Ronnie Renton who used to work at GW, rules made by the great Allesio Cavatore) they are making plastic fantasy models half the cost of GW, and at one point they converted a popular metal kit to resin. The price did not go up, it halved.

Thats my little rant. This move had potential, resin is a nice material, easier to work with than metal and the potential for more detail. But GW marketing at as a hobby revolution and the best thing ever when other companies (including their own Forgeworld) have been using resin for yeeaars is a bit rich. Price increases is rediculous. And the number of miss-sculpts on their 'best examples' in the photos is very worrying. In short, I am rather unimpressed overall and certainly won't buy any at increased prices over the old exactly the same quality metal models.

Well, Strewart, you have officially let the wind out of my sails for the day. And here I was getting all excited...

    Sigh. Darn GW.

Sorry, didn't mean to do that. I am sure there are still tons of people excited about it. But for me, all the downsides definitely outweigh the positives and kill it.

In fact, GW has done enough annoying decisions in the last week or so to make me stop buying GW full stop. Just ordered the last couple of bits to finish my LM army, and I will continue to convert, paint and game, but not buying anymore. My money can go to the much nicer Mantic Games and Dystopian Wars. But I won't go into more detail here; this thread is for Fineca$t. ;)

I agree mantic miniatures are nice and incredibly well priced. the TK's are getting some of these, 3 ushabti for £30 yet 3 trolls/minotaurs are £27 so they are going to be increasing the price it seems :/

I was going to post a question on this too. I'm glad a few folks have pointed out the weaknesses. Is there anything else that we can do? It would seem they have increased prices on a yearly basis. I just hope they don't do it again to White Dwarf. I love the magazine and have been reading it, even with all it's ads, since early 2000's.

Is there really any bonus to buying these type models then? Should I just start looking for replacement models from other model makers?

I don't think there is any real bonus, and the only reason you need to buy these models is if a) you play at Games Workshop stores as they won't allow other mini's or b) you can't find something else that could be used in it's place.

The positives of it is that it will be easier to convert than metal because you can chop it easier, since its lighter large metal kits will be easier to assemble, superglue will hold it faster and better as well.

Unfortunately it looks like there will be a lot of mis-sculpts and dodgy areas, it is more brittle so it is prone to shattering if dropped, and the obvious GW have increased the extortional prices. As an example of how crazy that is, just today Mantic have rereleased a popular unit that used to be in metal in resin, and as a result the cost per model has effectively halved since they are putting double the number of models in the kit. Link. If they can do that, screw GW for doing the opposite.

Aus prices... Well, its almost time you submit your kidney for an army in Australia. They will all rise here. I haven't paid Aus prices in years (UK is half Aus prices now) I've been using online stores in the UK to save loads of money, GW are now trying to stop them shipping overseas as well which is annoying, and effectively stopping me buying GW. I'll be interested to see what a box of Blood Knights goes up to tonight, since its already $150 AUD.

If only mantic made lizardmen... GW are going completely over the top now, there is a recession going on at the moment and purchasing anything that isn't needed at the moment isn't the easiest of things, and to increase prices is going to make it worse :/ If anyone is interested in starting Elves/Vampires I would recommend Mantic army deals, the UD one has 160 models for £99 how can GW justify there deals for what you get

I was reading a blog review where some one got their hands on one of the new Finecast
it seems that the only ones people are geting at the moment are probaly the miscast
that get thrown away, since that can't be reused after being cast, also they did some
destructive testing, well ok he just droped it on the concrete floor from 6' up a few times,
result... no damage, it just bounced a bit, basicly the same thing you explect from droping
    a plastic model.

Mantic is a very new company, they are still definitely developing their range and rules, there will be a Lizard type army at some point. Probably not within the next year or so though. I know they are doing humans and ogres next, and most likely goblins soon. Additionally, they are developing their own sci-fi range which should see some models this year.

I saw you say this on WS, and I have to say I disagree. Its much more likely these are just leaked ones that got to stores a few days early and the store owners either opened up a couple or gave a couple to regular customers. They've all been rather miscast. And I mean, if even the GW Showcase models on their own website are miscast, it really doesn't say much for the rest of them. But we will know for sure tomorrow I guess. I'm betting there will be a rather large failure rate for them unfortunately, especially as the molds start to get older, and that will not help cost.
