Hey guys. So my plan for bolt throwers is Chameleons and/or Terradons (of course), but I jus thad a few questions about deployment. 1) Can the Bolt Thrower turn to face my chameleons and shoot them? Can their archers? Or are they move/shoot units? 2) Great Eagles. Is a unit of chameleons and a unit of terradons good enough to handle this? Or should I be taking more skinks to guard my Saurus blocks? Terradons can flee/charge and shoot. Basically distract.. but could they kill? And lacking a bolt thrower I could send chameleons at one as well. Any thoughts appreciated!
Also 3) Archers. What should I do against these? March a block of saurus towards them? Place a unit of chameleons out of their arc and just shoot? Or are masses of skirmishers better here? Thanks for the tips guys!
1) Yes warmachines can turn on the spot during the shooting phase with no penalty. Archers need to turn during the movement phase. They can still shoot, but will get a penalty. HE archers suck, you shouldn't face them. 2) Eagles aren't really that useful. A round of poison from anything will knock them over, and they really won't do much harm to your army anymore. They are warmachine hunters, and we don't have any warmachines. 3) Whatever you want, as I said archers are pretty crappy. Saurus will roll them, but you should try to get into them with something a bit faster I guess.
Shoot them. Shoot them with whatever you can get. As long as you don't try to punch them you'll be fine.
Swordmasters are very hard hitting, but not very tough. If you can get past their initial onslaught, it could work out. Personally, I would rather go up against these guys than Phoenix Guard. In both cases I try to set up a flanking move and minimize their attacks (usually calculated upon deployment and set up that way) - usually with CoC (Yep, HElves is one of the armies I love taking these guys against) or a Life augmented infantry block. I always try to get some spells and poison shots off first to widdle them down. Im sure others will have different tactics, but this is what works for me.. which I play against HElves on a constant basis (though I am happy to report that I FINALLY got our HElf player to try other armies!). lol - Lord Cedric
High elf models are expensive so the longer the battle lasts the better your chances are of winning. Phoenix guard with the battle banner/war banner combo are the most dangerous with the potential +8 to combat resolution so I try to avoid them as much as possible, or stick them with T. Guard if I'm using them. A unit of SKrox vs. White Lions will eventually go to the skrox so long as your leadership is decent. Saurus Warriors should be able to hold their own against the rest. Chameleon skinks eat bolt throwers. A unit of 6 will destroy a bolt thrower every round on average. Field 2 units of 6 and he will not have the bolt throwers long. Then harrass everything else.
