For those who like to see my progress, here are some of my models I painted: I’ve based everything to round now. So I’ll make better pictures soon. I dont have the best painting skills, but I like to see the progress with each unit I paint. A bit proud of the stegadon, cant wait to finish him
Ok @IggyStarhost listen up, we all had crap painting skills, practice, practice is the key. We don’t care how good you paint we just love seeing people’s models and the journey they take in the hobby, trust me on this, paint and post regular pics in a year you will be amazed at your progress, I won’t because I believe everyone can paint you just need to practice. At some point you will start to think how do I improve? that is when we come in and try to guide you the best we can. Excellent start keep the pics coming
I mean warhammer tv also has lots of great painting tutorial videos? not many on seraphon/lizardmen but plenty of techniques to use? I'm excited to try the terradon wing pattern one?
Finally had some time to paint again. And just dove in the deep to paint my bastiladon! Im really happy with the result! It still does need some final detail colloring tho. The spears and the solar engine. But cant descide which colors. Really enjoyed doing the skinks. I was afraid I would mess up the small details. Not as good as some of you, but definatly above my own expectations. Curious about your opinion!
Very nice work! I love the gem effect and you did a great job on the bastilodons claws. A small tip. When painting eyes of skinks or saurus try painting a little bit less of the surface area of the eyes of your skinks than you’ve done here. (Like 5-10% less) it makes the eyes bulge out a little bit less and makes them look more natural. The cavity around the eye should be darker from shading the skin and the dark outline around the eye creates great contrast. Give it a try, see if you like it better. I know eyes are a huge pain.
Thanks for the tip! If you have any further tips, please let me know! I now have 30 skinks ready to get painted!
I think your precision is already quite good, but your paint layers look a tad thick. Good progress, the Basti looks very nice. For additional colors on the gold parts I would use the same light blue that you used for the little triangles on the Basti's head armor.
Thanks Aginor! On my other models my paint does feel thick aswell. Need to water it down some more. I usually apply: 2 thin layers of base paint 2 thin layers of layer paint 1 thin layer of shade Not highlighting yet Is that to many layers? Could I skip a base layer, or water it down some more? I also have some lahmia medium, but use that more for glazes
Nothing wrong with that number of layers. Just keep in mind that the more layers you use the thinner they should be. I think just a drop of water more (or using a wet palette) will do.
It also depends on what you're painting. Sometimes I get away with one layer of basepaint, but like my averland sunset if it's not over white usually take 3+ thin coats to achieve coverage. This is why I work off a white primer? haha
Good advice. Some colors cover well, some don't. Really depends on the color and the coat beneath it. Yellow over white is easy, over black it sucks. So sometimes you have to paint another color first.
Salamander conversions: Test model: The rest of the crew waiting till I make up my mind: No sure about the black. Drybrush it or just layer it. What do you think?
It said dry brush I did the lava army method showed by GW and it turn out looking great !! Take a look http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/egres-dino’s-and-there-lunch.23878/page-4 I do like the skinks different colour combi I was looking at doing something similar not too sure which colours yet but yeah!!
