oh you mean potential flock. ;)
awesome stone though, looks like a ton of dremmeling.

It is quite a bit of dremmeling, but cutting out the rough shape with the scroll saw helps reduce the dremmeling work quite a bit.

Have you ever made your own flock? The sawdust is quite fine, could it still be used? The sawdust used in professional flock seems to be a bit more coarse.

    yea, I have...
The formula I tried was Green Food coloring + a little green paint to adjust the color + a lot of mixing and maybe a little water.
then spread it out to dry...
oh and you may want to sift it if there are any random large chunks of larger sawdust or splinters.

Ps. it will be pretty dark when you first mix it up , but it will lighten when it dries.

Pps. you can use any sawdust for this from fine to coarse.
use the super fine as moss and the coarse as ground cover or leaf litter.

AWESOME... thanks for the tip. I'll have to try that out some day. With all my silly woodworking projects, I have a virtually never ending supply of saw dust!

Is there a particular type of wood that makes for the best flock (hardwood vs. softwood... or a particular species: pine, spruce, oak, maple, etc.)?

probably anything that takes stain well would work,
I imagine the softwoods would be better &
and heartwood would be the worst.

Ps. I made some more edits since your quote.

Ooooh, that would look so sweet in a cave, Dwarf/Skaven/Goblin matchup! I could see a whole table top with several of them all around like stalagmites! That'd make for some great fluff in games! :)

Below are pictures of a stone wall I made a while back. It still needs a few touch-ups and basing. The wall itself measures roughly 6.5" in length and about 1" in height.

Here are a few pictures of the base, before any stones were added.

Here are a couple of pictures of the wall with the stones glued in place.

I plan to base the piece with some sand, flock and a little clump foliage (when I eventually get around to it; it's been sitting in this state for some time now).

Ah, nice. I do love a good dry stone wall. Reminds me of ma 'ometown back in't t' Yorkshire Dales.
Except with more potential for bloodshed.

Wood Elves are a pretty cool army to be honest. It's the High Elves that I don't like, but wood elf slaughter will have to do.

My favourite armies are Lizardmen and Warriors of Chaos (hence the Chaos Bane Stone terrain piece on the previous page).

Lizardmen are mine, my 8 year old loves High elves, purely for the dragons!

Skaven are my 2nd choice

one suggestion for a future upgrade of your storage unit: I think it's better to store brushes handle up, to keep any moisture in the brushes to creep down into the glue and gradually ruin the brush. of course this is mostly relevant if you're partial to expensive brushes like Windsor&Newton or such :)

I had never really thought of that... that's a good suggestion. I don't have any expensive brushes at the moment, my most expensive ones are the GW ones. If it ever get an expensive brush I'll make sure to store it elsewhere in the manner you suggested. Thanks for the tip!

If you someday obtain expensive / extra worthy brushes I see a way you could add handle up storage for them to this unit. If you installed (glued?) some earth magnets to the "roof" of the brush storage bay AND ALSO added (perhaps) the head of a steel sewing pin to the end of the brush handle then I THINK you could just hang the brush(es) from the magnets. :)

Really digging your stone wall. What did you use as the mortar/grout?
