the Legend of the Hidden Tower has now been painted!

And another scar-veteran glamour pic for scale:

    Really loving this tower.

Inspirational pic! I think it will look better when the leaves are added. I don't plan to add any red stone though, maybe just brown?

Try add a moss effect for some of the stones to make it look more aged - you've got gaps between the stones that would be nice for inserting things :)

A very light sepia wash around the base stones randomly will help blend it in also just drybrudh a stone here and there in a darker grey that will help break it up a bit.

Can't wait for the vines to be added. :)

Such great terrain! Too bad you didn't get a chance to enter it into @Crowsfoot 's awesome terrain competition many months ago.

I would be up for that! Especially if there was a dimension limit, I have been itching to make a second plaza.

Can I suggest if you're doing a terrain comp to make a sub comp for a small terrain category ( I.e a base without a model on it size category or with a model if you like optional.) purely for the reason of wanting to enter but having done no work on terrain before it'd be a big ask to jump into a whole project, though saying that I've been collecting foam from packaging :p just a mini idea for making it more accessible or at least a fraction of it accessible for newbies

Let's wait and see what happens with the comp @The Red Devil and @Scalenex are sorting out as I have category in that comp with some very good prizes ;)

But after that I will defo sort another comp as I loved the last one, I have something planned although I can't win a prize as last time :)

Now Slannta you should be able to magic a terrain piece out of your skaven sac, but don't be afraid take a look at the tower I made in my comp that was my first piece of terrain ever, it's pretty easy if you break the project down into stages take a look at how @NIGHTBRINGER and @Warden tackle their projects.

If I can do it anyone can ;)

I understand I will probably attempt something if I can but I don't have all the additional hobby things at my disposal (yet) all my money goes on models - i'll make a point to get more things to use :D commence formulation of ideas...brain engaged ....

I look forward to whatever you guys plan! Is there normally a dimensions limit to the piece of terrain? I can start planning for something now if there is. And don't worry @SlanntaClause I am sure you will be able to pull something off. This fortress project is about four years in the making and I am only now buckling down to get it finished.

As of this morning all four towers are now complete!

    Jungle Tower WIP 12.JPG

Also some small ruined snake statues that are not yet painted, they only got a black base coat so far.

Now that the base grey is done I can start taking everyone marvelous suggestions into account. I plan to add a little brown for shading around the bases, add a little color. Plus some greens and potentially darker greys to break up the light grey.

I'm very curious what they have planned.
That last one was an amazing comp. Very nice pieces were submitted (and as I recall, you stole the show with the winning entry).

I think the competition would be even stiffer for this one... I think we have quite a few new terrain makers now.

Nice towers! But aren´t the pillars fragile? They look at least form the picture that they are very thin

They were a bit more fragile when I first made them... one broke so it became two pieces of terrain. You can see it in the picture... if they break anymore its just ready made ruins!

    That is a great tactic!
Lesson: for realistic ruins, build a perfect piece of terrain, throw it downstairs, out of the window, smash it with a hammer and finally glue it all back on one base, leaving the biggest surviving piece standing upright with the others laying around :p:D
There was one guy who actually did this. They took 3 or 4 wh40k kits, put them together and then smashed and cut them all around. :joyful:
