Hi everyone. I played a classic GW blue Lizardmen army back in 5th/6th Edition. Life had gotten terribly busy so I dropped out of the hobby. Well, I decided to come back even though I am still way too busy! Couldn't stand having all these models just sitting in a closet. Because of my schedule, a friend is actually doing the vast majority of the painting to help me out. Just to make clear, I'm not taking credit for the work done, just most of the idea. We'd love feedback from the community though so here I am.

We chose to do a volcano themed army. The army book mentions that there are volcanoes all over the mountians of Lustria. So fire, ash, and obsidian are the colors we're working with. Saurus will tend more towards a red with dark grey scales. Skinks more of an orange with lighter grey scales. I wanted to toss some warpaint/tattoos on them to bring out the jungle feel. On larger bases we're hoping to get some fire and lava action going on.

So let's start things off with some skinks.
    skinks002.jpg
For these small bases, we were going for mostly volcanic turf with just a little not-too-healthy looking grass.
    skinks007.jpg
It does not show well in the pictures, but the 2 units of Skinks have different color warpaint on the tails.

We're currently working on a big block of Saurus and 4 Salamanders. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

If there only were a lore for ice, would be more awesome. Kislevs armybook has a ice lore, but don't remember what kind of lore it was..

Btw, really nice looking skinks :p hope everything else looks as good or better! :)

Very striking unit. Did you wash them with black or green(or nothing?) at the feet?

Also, wow, how wacky did your colour-balancing go with those first two photos.

@OldMossy, yeah, there was a diluted black wash over some of the heavy groove/wrinkle spots (feet, hands, etc) before dry brushing the basecoat again and highlighting up from there.

Awesome colours! I was contemplating for the orange and grey combination for my skinks, too, but thought it wouldn't look good. You guys pulled it off really nicely and completely proved me wrong. But that last picture totally took my breath away! Hopefully you'll keep them coming!

Re: Volcanic Lizardmen Painting blog (new Salamander)

This was a good weekend in the fiery mountains of Lustria! More progress on basing and details of the Saurus warriors.

    Sals013_zpsc97ceafd.jpg
The Full Command. Aside from the regular warpaint, the Champion has some on his face. Saurus heroes will have even more warpaint.

    Sals012_zps33dee35b.jpg
Both the Champion and Musician have black and gold shoulder armor. We wanted their crafted armor to blend with their natural armor.

We started working on our Salamanders. With all of the abundance of orange and red already, I wanted to go for more of a blue flame concept. The handler is the same orange as the regular skinks, but with a similarly blue fin and scales. We are going to try for some special basing on the Salamanders. These guys are our test models. Will post pics of the whole unit/final versions when we've knocked out the whole unit.

All 4 Salamanders are now finished!

    Sals009_zps181ff75a.jpg
The 4 Sals. The ground is broken by lava. We are going to use this effect for all of the larger bases.

    All 4 with their handlers.

Up next is a Skink Priest riding the Engine of the Gods.

Salamanders are excellent. The blue stands out in a striking but not garish way from your other models.

I am a huge fan of the old school style of Salamanders, but with your blue paint job, I actually like your new style Salamanders slightly better than the old one (not that the old style one has anything wrong with it).

Re: Volcanic Lizardmen Painting blog (new Salamanders)

Yeah, I like both styles of Salamanders. I plan on getting 2 more hunting packs eventually; don't know yet whether I will get some more old or new Salamanders.

EotG should be done by the end of the weekend, maybe Monday.

Great looking stuff so far. I really like the blue flame idea for the salamanders and their bases are pretty sweet! Keep it up.

Glad you guys are liking the Sals and the bases! Here are some pics of the Skink Priest and his crew for the EotG. The Stegadon isn't done yet. Will get that up when it's finished.
