This is so cool! That carno frawing is incredible! Just looks so awesome! And more heraldry! But seriously Smoke Frog and Carno are fantastic!

Not finished yet, but here is a new WIP piece I am putting together. More pictures after the short-story contest is done!

    Samurai Lizardmen Art!

So after I made my recent short story contest entry I decided to try and do some artwork to go with it. I have been getting into Japanese ukiyo-e/woodblock art recently, and have been doing some experimenting. I have gotten some great examples from famous ukiyo-e artists straight off the internet, and have lizard-ified some of them to fit into the samurai-lizardmen motif! I have made four so far, this one is actually the fourth one I have created. More to follow!

    Spectre Skeleton 1.jpg

The main character in the center is the named protagonist (antagonist?) of my short story, wielding his war-scythes. The short story doesn't necessarily match up with the artwork though; i figure the art is a dream sequence sometime in the future. In the background is a giant skeleton spectre, possibly the soul of a saurus that Ake killed on his rise to power, and now coming back to haunt/torment him. The spectre is also being conjured up by the skink priest reading from a scroll on the left side of the picture, while the priest watches Ake Zuhuanchi take down his next victim.

I like to think I captured the spirit of the original pretty well, even if I am unhappy how that second saurus came out... oh well. Hope you find this one interesting!

Got the inspiration for this one from a great work by Utagawa Kuniyoshi

You've done an amazing job capturing the style of the original. Tight down to the colours. This is a gorgeous painting! Masterfully done and represents your story well.

    Thanks!

I would love to paint this thing at some point, right now its just a color pencil draft. If I do decide to use actual paints it I might wind up using this other version's colors just to try it out. I would prefer to use more reds/purples for the drawing. Still am very happy how it turned out! :artist:

So in a flash of inspiration, I came up with a draft design for my temple-city layout! Based on pics from this thread via @Slanputin.

    Temple City of Mutal

    Temple City of Mutal.png

As per my temple city's Lore, the Temple City of Mutal is crisscrossed by a number of canals, that connect the city with the nearby river, as well as a host of competing temple factions (mostly competition between the conservative worshippers of the Tzunki and the fanatical Cult of Sotek).

Also made a quick chart to show which temple is which, complete with names and Old One glyphs.

    Temple City of Mutal_Temple Names.png

Pictures are low quality, but I hope it captures the spirit of the piece so far. I would love to go over this thing again in pen (and maybe a ruler...)

Awesome work @Warden . You've got an amazingly detailed plan. I really like the central octagonal layout.

This is incredible! So much amazing detail ot just brings your city alive! Really cool to see the depth and thought you have put into expanding your piece of the warhammer world.

Got a better picture of the map (better light helps)

    IMG_1812.JPG

Also have a poor attempt at color with colored pencils. I need to redo it again, but at least this picture shows where all the canals and water features are on the map.

Not sure if anyone has ever used the program "Sketch up" before, but I started experimenting yesterday again...

The program is a 3D architecture program, you can use it to build 3D models of houses, buildings, anything really. And at any scale, you can do a tiny house of a gigantic pyramid.

I started making my temple city!

    Mutal Sketch 1.png

More pictures to follow. I am just mimicking the design I sketched out on a 2D paper. Got a lot more canals and pyramids to add...

Oh yes... Had a test about that program three weeks ago. Quite simple to use compared to other stuff... We continue working with vector works, though...
Cool map you have there! Want to see a 3d video sample or at least some screen shots when it's completed!

I do like its simplicity. Took me about ten minutes and a short youtube video to figure out the basic controls.

I don't know how to make a video sample, but I got more screen shots:

    Mutal Sketch 3.png

The white pyramids in the lower left-hand corner are scaled to be the same size as the Great Pyramid at Giza (off by a couple of feet though, not 100% exact but it is close enough). In total I think the city isn't more than 1.5 or 2 miles across

    Temple City of Mutal (COMPLETE)

This project is now complete. Very pleased with the results. Also discovered that the program has the ability to paint color! Wish I had discovered this sooner... but it would take too long to go back and color in every single temple and building. I will settle for a basic Mayan-grey stone finished after all.

Also for reference, I based the measurements of the main temple on the Pyramid of Cholula, the largest pyramid of the New World (and probably the world). Nowadays the temple has a church built on top, a remnant of the Spanish conquest.
