Hey guys do you generally need to wash metals models with soapy water before priming? I haven't painted metal in ages and I am not sure if this step has changed at all.

    Thanks!

If they have not been stored covered just run them under warm water and brush with an old toothbrush, if they are still in packets etc they will be fine.

Usually I only was them if they look oily or discolored.
    (use dish soap and water)

The idea is to get rid of the oily release agent used to keep the metal from sticking to the mold,
Because it also keeps paint from sticking to the model.

Nearly all the pros over at reaperminis recommend washing as described above.

I sometimes take Windex(tm) (or similar) blast a figure with it and then rinse it off (by immersing in a water jar) then dry it somehow.

Does anybody know what mold release agent actually is?

A not so healthy chemical liquid... ;)
    Sorry can't tell you more.

But I recommend washing / cleaning plastic models, too. They sometimes are quite oily for the same reason as the metal ones... I usually use dish cleaner or put them in the jar where I have the models I want to strip of for some short time...

Got it, ya these Infinity don't seem oily or anything like that, which I have dealt with in the past.
