hey guys. i was wondering, what wash would go best with blazing orange?? as you know, blazing orange is a bit bright and i wanted it to be darker. any suggestions??
Bal red, grifintone sepia, or ogre flesh... or delvin mud. evperiment to find out wich one you like best.
Red might not make it too much darker though, mix red and devlan mud. But yeah try a couple out and see what you like best.
what effect does devlin mud have?? does it make the base coat darker and not necessarily change the color or does it change the color? just curious.
Yeah it will change the colour a little bit, it will give it a bit of a brown tinge which actually can look good on reds. Not so sure about on top of the orange, but it should work ok. Possibly black is about the only one that would add a few shades and not change the colour, but it can leave small patches of black if it doesn't spread evenly.
I have my skinks primed white. Then I washed them with the Baal Red. Drybrushed a little more blood red on their back scales. Then I washed it again with a mixture of Baal red, Leviathan purple, and badab black. The ratio was 2:1:1. It came out looking very nice. A deep dark red between the scales.
That sounds very interesting indeed! I am curious to see how they look, do you by chance have pictures?
Seconded the request for pics on that. I haven't been the biggest fan of washes aside from devlan mud and badab black, but people are getting some pretty awesome results with them really easily.
This is my first attempt at posting pictures, so bear with me. Also, I am a terrible photographer. You have been warned. First up: The top skink has the darker wash on it. Next are some where the darker wash is on the right side. The last has the darker skink on the left. These are not finished yet either. I still need to highlight some and base them as well. I did this to get them on the table with a little color this past weekend. Thanks
I like the way the skin/scales came out, but in my opinion they aren't exactly ready to be considered close to done (IE only needed highlighting). The eyes, the details, and their weapons all need to be picked out. But thats my just thoughts, thanks for posting up the pics! They look pretty cool Oh, and for camera taking, a couple of easy things will make your photos turn out much better. 1. Turn the Camera to Macro Mode (The little flower mode) 2. Turn off flash 3. Provide a strong directional light coming from behind where the camera is taking the picture. I just use a desk lamp and it works decently enough. 4. A way to make your photos EVEN better but is optional, is to provide a solid white background (Just use white printer paper), but then you have to load the pictures into a photo editing software to change the "White Balance". A good program for this is GIMP 2.6 (its free online) and to change the White Balance just click the Colors Tab > Levels > "Auto" Button (About 3/4ths down the Levels pop up window. Wallah, very nice pics.
so i ended up using devlin mud last night on my carno. it looks nice to me. i thought about the badab black but my carno scales are black and i don't think that would of been the way, but the devlin turned out to be the better choice anyways.
naw. but almost like it. if i had a camera i would take a shot of my carno but i don't but that's basically my color scheme for my carno and looks almost the same. i got it off of google images.
