Hello everyone, I'm a new player and I fell in love with the star lizards. I'm planning of starting with a 1000pts and then build up from that. Leaders: Lord Kroak (general) 540pts Astrolith bearer (equipped with... (?) dunno help me please) 160pts Battleline: Saurus guards *5 100pts Saurus guards *5 100pts Saurus guards *5 100pts Total 1000/1000 I'm a beginner and plan on using Kroak just for how my already playing friend (dwarf user) shivers in hearing his name. I plan on building up the army to use the combo Kroak*Starseer*Engine (Love the engine) Please be as brutal as you need to be, don't hold back. I know I'll have to be quite defensive to start but I'm fine with it.
Welcome to Lustria-Online! Looks like you're a magically inclined player. I'm not too know'd up on AoS yet, but I'm sure one of our more veteran players will be more than willing to give you some good feedback. I've heard that Kroak isn't all that he's cracked up to be in this edition, but it's best to find out for yourself!
You would be better off with an eternity warden and more points. Half your points tied up in a 10 wound model is not going to be fun for you. Unless you are circling your guard around him a unit of bugmans rangers could walk up behind and take him out first turn. Kroak is a tough one to olay at low points values. But if you insist what other models do you have?
I have the engine of the gods already built and the starter pack. I have yet to buy any of the guards though, I'm thinking i might convert the warriors into them
You have the start collecting box? Play carny, knights and warriors Convert one of your knights into a "Scar vet on cold one" judt give him a different head and weapon from your knights so he stands out.
I appreciate the suggestion. But i still want to include kroak in the army some how. I think the major strength point of this army is it's all coverage attacks
And make the oracle from the trog into a starpriest. I would pick up an eternity warden. Something like this off the top of my head, but not ideal- Leaders Lord Kroak (540) Skink Starpriest (100) Saurus Eternity Warden (140) Battleline 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Blades - Seraphon Battleline 5 x Saurus Guard (100) - Seraphon Battleline Units Total: 1000/1000
Go for it but he really is expensive and limited in small games but just have fun and let us know how you do. Kroak is a great model one of our best sculpts.
I gather that the rising means you will eventually be at larger points, first couple of games are going to be tough though.
I plan on using the eternity warden as soon as I get to 2000pts (so i could also use the eternity starhost). I thought i should have a more defensive style to use Kroak, shouldn't i keep the guards instead of the Knights?
I put in knights to give you a quick unit to capture objectives. If you're sticking to the original build give the astrolith the phoenix stone to keep him alive longer. At 2k go for a balewind Vortex if you can find one or make one. +1 to casting/unbinding double the range. Celestial Deliverance will hit pretty much everywhere. Double range +8 inches from the astrolith will give you an amazing threat area.
Keep in mind that the rule of one only lets kroak cast any one spell once. You can't repeat the mortal wound spell 3 times. Honestly, i would nevrr use kroak at 1000 points even if he could multicast a spell. Too much of a points sink.
I thought he was an exception since he was the only one I ve seen having it written this way. Ouch. We really can't use him anywhere in pitched battles
Nope. They specifically use kroaks ability in the question on the faq. It does do a damn fine job of neutering the frog.
Lachlin is right, but we still have 3 damage spells at our use, plus, the starseer will only be casting his +1/-1 spell so kroak can cast the shield on whoever needs it
As someone who tried running a list very similiar to this I can say from experience that kroak is defs too expensive at the 1000pt. Maybe at 1500pts were you have enough budget for guys to protect him better, but at 1000 you don't really have enough points for a good defense and kroak is a massive target that people will try to erase as soon as you have him deployed. If you really want to use the kroak model( I honestly don't blame you, his sculpt is hella rad) just field him as a starmaster and use the extra points to bolster your defences
Have you used warscroll builder that has the restrictions built in, but off top of my head, 6 leader slots- 1 needed Battleline units- 3 needed 4 Behemoth slots- none needed 4 Artillery slots- none needed http://www.scrollbuilder.com/
