Now is the winter of our discontent...

This winter is likely to be cold and dark...which is good for poetry. It's been a long while since we had a poetry contest and I'm a nerd who likes to tie poetry contests to the solstices and/or equinoxes. It just so happens that making the deadline the Winter solstice means that the poetry contest will not have an entry window overlap with any of our seasonal short story contests.

    The Theme
There is none. Choose whatever theme you like so long as it is related to Lizardmen, Seraphon, Salamanders or Saurian Ancients.

    The Rules
There are none. (Apart from the following)(So in actual fact there are some rules, I lied to you, I am sorry)

-Keep your poem to an artistic minimum. Word count wont be stressed about too much in here, but ideally the poem should be more than two lines.
-Keep it anonymous. Don't use your own name in the poem or use someone else's name throw them off the scent
-Keep Lizardmen in the story or some aspect of their world / lore.
-Keep visuals and images to a minimum or none at all this is a poetry competition.
-Keep em coming, you may enter as many times as you wish.
-Multiple entries are allowed from the same person!

The winner will be decided by public vote at the end of the deadline - December 21th 2019, the winter solstice, by midnight US Central TIme. Please send a private message to me, @Scalenex to send a submission.

I aim to do these twice a year. Next one will likely be around the Summer Solstice. If enthusiasm for this is very high, we can do these four times a year. If enthusiasm for this is very low, I will keep this as a once a year thing.

It's not possible. You must send a private message.
Do you know how to do it?

Getting some nice poems already :)

Short story contests, there are usually neglibible submissions early on, a few in the middle, and a lot at the last minute. Haven't had as many poetry contests to compare to, but they seem to have a pattern. Submissions start out fast, slow down to nothing in the middle, then pick up again at the last minute.

OK, the idea for a poem struck me. Count me in!

PS: is it possible (in a similar way to the writing contest) so submit the piece for proofreading and advices?

Yes, but I am less versed in the nuances of poetry than story construction so my advice will be simpler.

The submissions have been coming it at a steady rate....I never said that before!

I hope it doesn't stop. If the pace continues this will easily be our largest contest via number of entries ever :) I could have jinxed myself writing that though...

Note the poems are pretty short, reading fifteen poems is not as time consuming as reading fifteen short stories.

    Keep up the good work!

We got eight entries so far, but I think we can get at least twelve. Remember, multiple entries per person are allowed for the poetry contest.

THat's right, i could submit a second poem...

    let's see.

    "Carno Carno, burning bright,
    In the forests of the night;
    What immortal hand or eye,
    Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
    "

Nice. But i fear it could be called out for plagiarism... :bookworm:

Yep that's him. For whatever reason his name makes me think of winter and I have no clue why. Also one of my favorite poems is by a poet,John Driden
Must I at length the sword of justice draw?
Oh curst effects of necessary law.
How I'll my fear, they by my mercy scan.
Beware the fury of a patient man.
