My wife and I were brainstorming some projects yesterday and this morning, and I remembered some of the 24-hour paint challenges I have watched on youtube in the past:

Thinking about attempting this next weekend (long Labor Day weekend). I have never done a 24-hour paint challenge, but it seems like a great time to get through my pile of shame on my shelf :meh::wideyed:

Still working on what rules I will set for myself (being allowed to eat, use bathroom, only painting minis, get them assembled/primed beforehand, etc) but I think it would be fun. I have stayed up for ~48 hrs before without sleeping, and a few days in a row with about 2 hrs of sleep each night for work before, so why not try doing something actually fun for a long day?

Anyone ever try a 24-hr painting challenge or something similiar before?

Ok I have decided... I am going to try it out. Still got some planning to do, but the intent is to assemble/base everything beforehand, wake up early on Friday (day of from work! :D) and paint for as long as possible.

Right now here is what I have on my painting table.

    80% painted, just highlights needed:
    • 2x Ork zeppelins (along with 10 crewmembers between them) and their two large bases
    • 5x Ork Burna Boyz
    • Ork Weirdboy with wings
    • 25x 40K barrels and crates
    • 2x 40K shipping containers
    Assembled, undercoated, not painted yet:
    • 10x Skitarii Rangers (two squads of 5, both with the arquebuses)
    • 10x Skitarii Vanguard (two squads of 5, both with plasma)
    • 5x Sicarian Infiltrators (magnetized) right now with power swords
    • Onager Dunecrawler (magnetized) with all four main gun options
    • Sydonian Dragoon (magnetized so he can also be an Ironstrider Ballistarii)
    • Tech Priest Dominus (magnetized) with box set weapons options
    • 2x 40K Thermic Plasma Regulators (terrain)
    • 3x 40K crane/servo haulers/terrain pieces from the ork kill team box
    • 4x terrain bases for my samurai cherry trees
    Not Assembled yet:
    • Archaeoraptor (Admech flyer), hope to assemble him tonight!

I think this is plenty enough to get started for this challenge. Now to assemble the last model for the table, and figure out my TV show playlist for the day...

The table is laid out and work has commenced!

Got a good mix of past projects, some nearly complete, that can still be worked on and completed, plus some easy stuff for when I get tired. Excited to see if I can get major work done on my admech too :artist:

Lots of magnetization for these guys, need to fabricate more arms too.

Ok, so we are roughly 13-14 hrs into the paint challenge, blew right past the 12-hr mark and didnt even notice!

So far I have completed my five ork burnas which have been burning a hole in my paint queue for some time, along with a large number of crates and barrels. I also just finished my two new ork zeppelins, and am on my way working through a squad of skitarii next!

Here are all three completed zeppelins (better pictures after the paint challenge is complete):

Now that it is the evening its time to start watching some movies to carry me through the night. I have been mostly listening to sythnwave/cyberpunk playlists on youtube up until now.

Fun fact, 90% of the time when I am painting, I am standing up. My game table is high enough to make this comfortable to paint/game while standing, or site on one of my bar stools, which have backs on them, and are a comfortable alternative for when I actually do sit down. :D Hopefully long term this helps keep my back healthy, as I have a bad posture habit when I sit down at a desk most of the time.

I have survived my paint challenge, and it was a lot of fun! My apologies for not posting directly after I finished around ~7ish this morning, I put my paints down and slept till the afternoon :D

So in total compared to my previous list, this is what I was able to finish:

    Complete :cool::
    • 2x Ork zeppelins (along with 10 crewmembers between them) and their two large bases
    • 5x Ork Burna Boyz
    • Ork Weirdboy with wings
    • 25x 40K barrels and crates
    • 5x Sicarian Infiltrators (magnetized) right now with power swords

    Basecoated (80% complete) :artist::
    • 10x Skitarii Rangers (two squads of 5, both with the arquebuses)
    • 10x Skitarii Vanguard (two squads of 5, both with plasma)
    • Onager Dunecrawler (magnetized) with all four main gun options
    • Archaeoraptor (Admech flyer, magnetized)
    • Sydonian Dragoon (magnetized so he can also be an Ironstrider Ballistarii)
    • Tech Priest Dominus (magnetized) with box set weapons options
    • 2x 40K shipping containers
    • 4x terrain bases for my samurai cherry trees***
    No progress :facepalm::D:
    • 2x 40K Thermic Plasma Regulators (terrain)
    • 3x 40K crane/servo haulers/terrain pieces from the ork kill team box
***these are painted, just need flock :lurking:

Really happy with my progress. The orks on my table are now all complete, and I learned a lot about my new admech force.

    The new zeppelins look fantastic:

...as do the burna boyz and weirdboy with wings!

Also super happy with my infiltrators, and am looking forward to painting more of the mechanicus force in the orange Ryza theme.

That's all for now, I am calling this 24-hour paint challenge SOLVED! ...well at least a success :couchpotato:

Will post more pics of these completed units in my Other Paint Log later this weekend.

    Well done, sir, well done!!

Congratulations on passing the full 24-hours doing the joy that is Warhammer.

Great work on those Ork forces:artist:

I also like the Orange on the Mechanicus unit.
