I'm just curious if anyone knows the official rule about using Stegadons as battleline and how it works with 3e battalions. I know that they can be counted as troops for some battalions, but can they be counted as monsters for others? Are they locked into being troops for everything? Or can you pick which one you want them to count as?
the 3.0 battalions make a distinction only between: - leaders - behemoth - artillery - troops troops does not equal battleline... troops is basically any unit that is not in the former 3 groups. leader, behemoth, artillery and troop are roles, not keyword. So: what a thing is... it depends. Stegadons are usually behemoths, but when a monster becomes battleline, it loses the role "behemoth" and takes the role "troop" (while mantaining the keyword monster for all related abilities) Stegadons in a TL list are troops
This is not correct. Stegadons are still monsters for things like monsterous actions, and counting as 5 models for contesting objectives, but they lose the behemoth battlefield role in Thunder Lizard when they gain battleline.
...are you sure? looking at this FAQ (the very last faq in the last page), they just don't count toward the total number of behemoths, but it's not stated they lose the keyword. Edit: silly me... behemoth is not a keyword 2nd edit: I've updated my first answer, which now is correct. tnx @xoid !
So the correct answer is that they are *not* useable in the Linebreaker or Alpha Beast Pack battalions when in Thunder Lizard?
It never occurred to me, but i fear so. Funnily, they could be hunters and so be immune to enemy's monstrous actions.
Yup, I've done that more then once, good to protect them from getting roared at so you can use feral roar or all of attack.
Thanks for the information! I guess the Hunters of the Heartlands is the way to go if you're not going for a one drop or a Warlord battalion
