Hell All, Just starting Warhammer because my local GW is starting an Esc League this Saturday. The first point total is 600, plus 50 for buying $100 dollars worth of stuff. I bought a battalion and a skink priest to run for my 650, but I was wondering what you thought about doing: 600pts Skin Priest 2x Bastiladons ~20 Sarus Warriors (At work and don’t have my book with me for exact points) Is this stupid or is it “fun stupid”? I know not everyone is like the Bastiladons, but I like the models and plan on running two of them in my lists so I figured why not do it from the start. I am planning on balancing it out as I go along, with the next point level bringing in Skink Skirmishers an Ancient and more Sarus. Thanks for any insight,
Well, if you want 2 bastis in the list, I think I would go with: Cowboy with 1+sv, wardsave or dawnstone. Maybe GW, cold one, gambler's armour, dawnstone. I think it's just below 150 pts. 2 units skink skirmishers to fill the core requirement. 2 bastiladons. should be 600 pts. If you have 650 pas to spend, I would add 10 skink cohort. With 2 bastis, it's quite easy to spend all PD without risk, and at 600 pts it's not quite as important to have any magic defence.
I'm new and I play saurus 'cuz I have them, but I always play skink skirmishers first. I guess I'm curious why you feel the need for 2 bastis. I think they work really well with saurus and TG, but I don't know about skinks. I don't see how they improve your list. Off topic: You get to take extra points for buying stuff? I know they are there to make money, but that seems like a poor way to do it. What's next, in game advantages for paying higher entry fees in tournaments? It soon becomes a game of who has the most money. There's enough of that in life, I don't need it in my hobby too.
I guess they add a magic missile, mostly. And some staying power, with 2+ save they will be a somewhat more difficult nut to crack at that low point game. I like the solar engine best.
+1 for the cowboy. Solar engines on the bastis just pull dice from your level one. Plus it's fun to IF your beam of chotec because it has no negative side effects. That'll teach them for bringing a scroll in a 600 pt mini-match. I'd run a scar vet cowboy with great weapon and armor of destiny. unless the extra 50 points have to be devoted to core then I'd go dawn stone with light armor and dragon helm for a 1++ I probably would drop a basti for a unit of skink skirmishers too. Give them javs and the get a 6+ armor/6+ parry if they do get into combat, but they are great redirectors mostly and set up team for your saurus which you should probably run sword and board for the parry save as well gives them some survivability since they will be fairly small unit. Just an after though does the basti Initiative buff stack? Good luck to you in you tourney.
The basti initiative buff does not stack - I asked a similar question a while ago. The rule is something like "if one or more bastiladons are within .....". It's the "one or more" bit and the lack of the word "per" in the rule. I know I asked more as a long shot than in any hope!
Bummer; I was about to go Slannless with 4 Bastis... Lol j/k Yeah I'd definitley drop one basti for two skirmishing units.
Am I missing something here? How is it possible that you can take 2 bastis for such a small game? 150 pts for one will fill out your special choices completely. It's still a great idea though, I love the solar engine
Okay, but normally it is still 25% allowance for special, right? Sorry for the offtopic but I'm kinda confused
Wow. It seems that the translation of the BRB to my first language is soooo wrong. Thank you guys, I love you for clearifying this May the Old Ones be with you, always. Back to the topic, I love the idea with double bastiladons. In such a small game they are gonna be really terryfying
To be honest this list is reminding me a lot of my old warband list back in 6th edition. it was Scar vet (JSOD) 2 units of scouting skinks with quetzl 3 man pack of sallies it came up to right at 500 and ripped face from everything it came across. This list seems to be in the same spirit, and while your magic is less guaranteed than the old school sallies, you will only be casting 2 spells a turn. If I were you id have a cowboy, units of skirmishing skinks, and the double bast this topic has actually made me want to try out smaller point games like these again, so best of luck with what happens
