    Thanks, guys!

I slowly feel a bit like I want to paint again.
I've been repairing stuff (a few of my models and some of my kids' toys) lately and it felt good.

Now I have to clean up my painting table...

    Progress!
Today I cleaned up my hobby table a bit and repaired some more of my kids' toys.

Doing so I realized that I never showed the fully repaired old Barbie horse. So here it is.

I didn’t have the exact same colors but I used layering to make it fit decently.
Making it seamless was beyond my skill but my daughter is happy with it.

After one year of painting hiatus I resumed work on my Realmshaper Engine.
My skills have deteriorated a bit, I struggled a bit. Especially with smaller details.

Next up: the dirt and a bit of shade on the colorful parts.

Now I wonder if I should keep it this way or paint the snakes on the stairs as well.
I tend to leave it like that. I want to finish this model and move on. 20210711_210119.jpg

    I consider it finished now.
I added some more shading to almost all parts, so it isn't too clean.

Cleaning up continues. Soon I'll be ready for proper new projects.

    Also something horrible happened today.
I dropped one of my Capybara Skinks!

But... the Old Ones were in my favor!
The sand detached from the base in one piece.

I could reattach everything with a bit of glue.

Another one that was almost finished. Took just another hour today. Base still missing but thats true for the whole Sylvaneth army my wife and I painted.

    The ghost insect is magnetized.

That is very convenient! I have had this happen a few times randomly with a few of my bretonnians before... not sure why the glue keeps all the sand particles together like that but I can't complain!

That is a really beautiful paint job!

Is that green an undercoat and a wash or contrast paints? It looks amazing and crisp

    Thanks!
It is the recipe I use for all ghosts:
    1. Prime white
    2. Apply Waywatcher Green glaze. Out of production but thinned down green Contrast paint should do the trick
    3. Carefully edge highlight/drybrush with white if necessary.

    This gives an awesome look.
Would a wash/shade work as well?

It becomes less vibrant, but yes.
You would probably need to thin it down with acrylic medium so it doesn't get too dark.

I am sad that GW stopped producing the glazes. The day they announced it I went to the store and bought two pots of the blue, green and yellow ones.

So far I have not found a recipe to achieve the same effect with other colors.

Slowly ramping it up again, this Kurnoth Hunter took me half the weekend.

I think I can do a bit better (and will try to do so with the other two) but it will fit my wife's army well.

Of course I magnetized him and did all three versions. It wasn't as easy as I had hoped though.

I am not quite happy with the contrast colors here, they got very dark (so I drybrushed/layered them with a lighter brown) and they seem to chip more easily than my other colors.

This looks great, nice job! Contrast paints are very fragile, I'd highly recommend varnishing them, especially before doing a technique like drybrushing which is very abrasive

That tree warrior is pretty nice! I also like the crab-creature on his base.

Were the magnetization points at the shoulders I am guessing?

Yes. The hard part was to be precise enough so the arms still meet at the weapons in the angle they should.
The material on the shoulders isn't very thick though, so I could not place them the way I normally do. I drilled right through, into the chest cavity, and glued the magnets there.

Quoting myself because I forgot something:

I just remembered that in addition to that I have done the same but with two additional steps, which creates a slightly darker but more contrasted version:

After priming, shade it green, then layer/drybrush it white, THEN add the green glaze and do the white highlights.

More shades of green are the result, I did that for some of my undead (Morghasts for example).

The result is overall darker though, so for the Sylvaneth I left out the shade for a brighter, more lively green.

Not about painting but today I learned that my local GW store closed some time ago.
I feel sad, especially for the guys that spent a lot of time there, painting, building and playing AoS and 40K. They were always there when I visited, and I spent hours discussing with them even when I was only there to buy some models or a pot of paint (I bought most of my GW stuff there even if it was a tad cheaper online, just to support the place. I didn't play a lot there, just a handful of times, but always had fun). I guess I will never see them again.

The next two stores are each around 30km away, not going there I guess.

In more uplifting news: I looked at some models online, since I might start another small army when I run out of stuff to paint and still have motivation left.
Right now the Beastmen look surprisingly good to me, probably because I am having fun with them in TWW2. The models are older and less detailed but not too hard to paint.

I might even try the old world when it is released (and the rules aren't a bloated mess like 8th), even though I hate the look of square bases.
I hope there will be some way to make something like square multibases with round slots so I can play AoS or TOW. I like AoS so far. But this is GW so I don't expect a lot.

The other army I looked at is the Lumineth dudes.
My wife and I agreed that we like pretty much all of the models, but WTF is wrong with their helmets?! I looked at almost every single one of them, pointed at some spot and said "I'll just cut here and here, and it will look ten times better". (Usually just cutting off the upper part of the helmet).
