Hello, I have recently started a Seraphon army and have a big (2K) game scheduled for next week. I've had two small skirmishes against Ogre Kingdoms last week (600pts) and got tabled both times. My opponent mentioned summoning being a major part of our game plan yet I've been reading various conflicting sources online and in GHB18 and would like some clarification on exactly how summoning works? Any assistance would be greatly, greatly appreciated! Many thanks Rise
Welcome to the forums! I moved this thread to Age of Sigmar. The 9th Age is another game. As for your question: The GHB2019 has everything you need. Summoning is the same as in the GHB2018 though. And yes summoning is important for us, it is one of our core game mechanics. In fanes below 1000 points it is hard to pull of though, as the Slann is quite expensive there. Edit: what about summoning do you struggle with? The basics are: Slann create points by not casting spells, you spend the points on units, according to the table. You then set them up at the end of the movement phase, 9" away from enemies.
Hi Aginor, Thanks for your response. So basically, do we need to spend points on summoned units or do we just get them for free by not casting spells and spending said points acquired?
Ah, I think I know where your confusion might stem from. In short: - there are no reinforcement points anymore. - the abilities on the Seraphon warscrolls don't exist anymore either. So no, you don't have to spend the points costs from the matched play points budget. The only points you spend is the celestial conjuration points (a.k.a. summoning points). Example: You have a Slann as your General, and you want some Skinks. So you cast only one spell with your Slann in the hero phase, and instead of the other two you announce that you dont cast the spells in order to get some points. You receive 7 points (1 for the Slann, 6 for the two spells). After your movement phase you spend 6 of those points and place a unit of 10 Skinks near your Slann. Edit: corrected my typo. 10 Skinks are 6 points That's it.
It does indeed. In practice it works rather well, though. If Skinks were less expensive, even by only one point, some of our lists could flood the board with them, which would probably be pretty unbalanced. Remember that a Balewind Vortex and Chronomantic Cogs enable a Slann General to create 16+ points every round, and there is not a lot that an enemy can do against it.
I cant find anything to clarify, are seraphon limited to how much they can summon each turn? Aslong as I have the points, I can out it in the board at end of the movement phase? I.e. 2 units of skinks.
Yep. Sadly you cannot reinforce existing units or summon one big unit instead of two or three small ones.
meh, they still hit like a wet noodle. The only reason they get even remotely dangerous is because at some point you're just throwing 100's of shots around. And wel, some gotta hit...
The look on my buddy's face when Skinks killed his Maw-Krusha..... good times. But yeah, it was sixty of them, and they were buffed by an Astrolith Bearer. And I think I debuffed his unit with something... Still cool.
