I'm glad to welcome you all to our Fifth

    FEATHERED SERPENT PAINTING COMPETITION

In The Feathered Serpent, we pick a different theme each time, and the goal is to represent the theme or find ways to turn it to the ways of the Old Ones.

The theme of this round, as chosen by @BigDinosaur , the winner of the last challenge, is

    "JUNGLE PATROL".

The theme focuses on the swift and brave explorers and vanguards of Lustria. Be them chama skinks, terradons, skinks scouts... whatever you feel it may fits the theme!.

You are also encouraged to use models or parts from whatever army you feel like, not restricted to Lizardmen / Seraphon only. It could be a single model or a whole unit of them, of all scales (pun intended) and sizes.
Original models (sculpts) and conversions are allowed.

The Prize: The winner earns the glory and a place in the incoming Hall of Fame thread. The winner also gets to select the theme of the next painting challenge.

    The Rules:
    • All models entered should not have been painted more than a year ago from the date the entry thread is closed. This will not be enforced but violators will politely be asked to retract their entry.
    • All miniatures presented must have been painted by the entrant.
    • Max one entry per person.
    • Max 3 images per entry (including pictures in collages), of reasonable size.
    • No voting for your own entry.
    • (for now) Open entries and open voting. Everyone can see who painted what.
    • Models can be of any manufacturer and conversion but must fulfill the criteria of the given theme.
    • A diorama is a valid entry, as long as it fits the theme.
    • if you want to re-enter a model that was already listed in a previous competition, pm me before doing it.

    The Schedule:

Week 1: now - Theme announcement and entry thread created
Week 8, Saturday, march 2: Entry thread closed. Voting thread opened.
Week 10, Saturday, march16th: Voting thread closed. Result announced. Winner asked about next theme.

As you can see, this round the deadline to submit your entry is longer than usual. with the new year, i believe we can try to keep a 3 months pace: more time for you to paint, a more precise schedule to follow for this comp. Let me know.

This thread is now open for people to post their entries. Please state a name of the entry along with the pictures. The thread closes on the 2nd of march 2024 at (roughly) 23:59. You can also comment and discuss in this thread, it is not restricted exclusively for entries.

Would it be heresy to enter the contest with a Skaven model? Since I mainly play blood bowl I would like to use a Gutter runner. It's the fastest player in blood bowl but the jungle theme is hard in blood bowl.

Alternatively I can use one of the wood elves I paint right now....

Entries are not limited to Lizardmen or Seraphon models, so you are welcome to enter either of those as long as it will fit the theme ;)

    Brave, no no.

Jungle ... In the the fluff of Warhammer totalwar, yes yes.

In blood Bowl, not so much

As the local chameleon skink fan I'm really liking this theme, let's give it a shot, and hopefully I'll finish it in time

Here's my entry, I painted these up just this fall and I just needed to take some nicer photos with them.

For my first entry in this competition, i wanted to present something truly unique, so this won't be a "model", it will be...

    A MODEL WITH A STORY!

Here in Lustria Southlands, a new dawn has arrived. The rays of the morning sun can barely filter through the dense canopy of the rainforest and here, at ground level, only a small change in the brightness signs the passage to a new day.
But here, in this forgotten corner of Lustria, where each day repeats itself equal since millenia, something different is going to happen. Something that don’t fits in the eternal, grand scheme of life and death.
Do you see them? there, on the left of this peaceful pond… Yes! those beings don’t belongs to Lustria… those are, indeed, the very first sign that something terrible is going to happen. Those creatures are an abomination… they are servants of the chaos God Nurgle, the Father of Diseases, and they job is to infect living creatures, waters and the soil itself with supernatural plagues.
They herald a Nurgle incursion, their goals is to turn this place into a grotesque parody of a garden, a nightmare that will only give birth to daemonic horrors.
Unless someone will be able to stop them

    Pic 1.jpg

and what do we have here? have you seen it? No? Don’t you feel a weird feeling? a subtle shiver at the base of your skull, as if you had the sensation of not being alone?
I don’t blame you, let’s look again together… there was something in the upper right corner of the pond, something that was hiding beteween the bushes. Let’s take a closer look…
YES, here it is! of course you couldn’t spot it… it’s a chameleon skink, one of the rarest spawnings of the lizardmen. The agile creature can blend itself into the background with absolute perfection, can move without a sound and even the keenest eyes won’t be able to guess its presence. Luckily for us, we’re not the prey he’s chasing. This single, deadly little hunter is perfectly able to dispose by itself of those intruders… and in case of a larger enemy host, he would certainly go away unnoticed, to call for help from the majestic saurus warriors
    .

    Pic 2.jpg

Now that you know where to look at, let’s take a look again at the pond.
Yes, now you see the whole picture. Chaos, once again, will be vanquished. Because here, in this endless expanse of green, you are never alone. This is Lustria, and the invisible eyes of the lizardmen will spot you, no matter where you’ll hide
    .

Well... There goes my original idea. :D

But I think that given theme of this round, it was inevitable that somebody comes with something similar. :D

    Great story and execution.
