I've recently started collecting and painting again after a year or two away from the hobby. My Seraphon army will be fire themed. Light yellow skinks dancing around, Solid burning red saurus, charcoal big guys with fire scales... and probably white and purple for the magic using Skink Priests, Slann and Troglodon. You have to start somewhere so here are the first 5 Skinks. Tabletop quality. Still to be based with a black rim and black charcoal iron sand (space fire volacano dust with sparkles).
That is a lovely colour scheme. So vibrant and the colours work so well with each other. An entire army painted like this will look spectacular!!! Definitely keep the pictures coming!
Thanks Guys. Props to my partner for also painting with me and doing a better job than I. Twice the models in the same amount of time! The only thing I'm not sold on is the Shield. From a distance it looks ok. Up close its killing me. I could... 1. Get over it, they are rank and file and there are 30 more to paint! 2. Wash it to dull down the grey and take of some sharpness. 3. Paint great in the holes and then wash it so its more (gray) lava-esk.
Here you go @Bowser . Her eye painting was better using bone and only washing the lower eyelid. They are very similar though. =)
@PhoenixTheCat Charcoal Skin with a lighter charcoal/grey underbelly, firey scales starting at red nearest the charcoal skin then to orange and up to yellow along the spin scales/spikes. Saurus riding will be mostly red.
My partner Bec had a different army a few years back. 8th edition Warriors of Chaos. Only the one army in this house... at the moment?
Yeah, I had taken it that @Mark Sinosich partner had a different army. Thought maybe they were racing to finish their armies!
Looking good. Very smooth with the yellow. Regarding the shields: I think think they look fine, if you're not happy with the effect, you could try making the highlight lines a bit thinner. Using the edge of the brush To just grace the rim of each scale instead of tracing the outlines across the flat of the scale.
I think they came out fantastic! And I really like your shields, they really pop with the scheme you have going. Maybe blending it more smoothly will get it to the way you want? Right now the change in color is really drastic. Or thin the line like deer rifts suggested.
Reminds me that I want to finish this guy long ago... http://www.lustria-online.com/attachments/wp_20160501_23_13_05_pro-jpg.20940/ Nice paint scheme!
Very nice details on those Skinks! As for the shields: Edge highlighting is hard. IMO for everyone but the very best painters out there it often looks weird and painted on up close. That's the reason why I don't do it at all and revert to drybrushing for highlights. But don't worry, if you don't get really close like in those pictures it looks awesome and you did a great job there.
Here are the Fire Skinks with completed bases (black base sides and black glitter base tops) https://www.instagram.com/p/BTaVBplB1M3/?taken-by=msinosic
