A good name can tell us useful information about a thing. And in the case of dinosaurs and other "beasts of the Seraphon", digging into the root origins of their scientific names can help us see what the Old Ones were thinking when they named them. Let's take a look:

    Carnosaur
These massive predators of the Seraphon are appropriately named, as the roots of their name means "flesh lizard".

    Aggradon
The new steeds of the Saurus cavalry have a name that is best translated as "teeth that make trouble". Seems right.

    Raptadon
The new cavalry of the skink have a name that means "snatching teeth", which no doubt comes from their kleptomaniacal tendencies.

    Troglodon
The venomous beast of the Skink Oracles has a name that means "hole teeth", which likely comes from their poor dental hygiene.

    Stegadon
These three-horned brutes have a name that means "covered teeth", probably because the teeth are inside its mouth.

    Bastiladon
"Bastil" comes from the Latin 'bastire", to build. But as these armored creatures are Bastiladons and not Bastiradons, we looked to the more modern sense of the term from Old French, which gives us the meaning "fortress teeth". The name of course comes from the near-impenetrable enamel armor on these guy's teeth.

    Salamander
As a fiery creature with a lizard-like build, they are no doubt named for both the amphibian and the fire elemental, both by the same name (and closely associated with each other, because as ancient people have long known, taking an old log from the forest and throwing it into a camp fire will inevitably spawn salamanders).

    Razordon
These spine-hurling beasties are named "shave teeth", for it is these creatures sacred duty to keep the Slann beard free. With their recent extinction, it is only a matter of time before the Slann start sporting chin scruff.

    Ripperdactyl
The root words for this vicious winged nightmares means "snatching fingers", because they are as often deployed as pickpockets as they are to the battlefield.

    Terradon
This one is often confused, because the root word 'ptera' means wing, and terradons are skilled flyers. But the word here is 'terra', so the name means "earth teeth" or "ground teeth". "Ground" because they are skilled flyers, and teeth because, well, they have no teeth.

    Terrawing
The newest and smallest member of the aerial Seraphon, the terrawings' name means "ground wing". A bit of an oxymoron, but what can you do?

    Cold One
The now extinct cavalry of the Saurus Knights (and friend to Dark Elves), the name of these reptiles means "beer" in most circles.
