Thanks!, Yea I am starting to run short of little creatures, but I think I can dig some up to put on the base, but more importantly you mentioned flying creatures, this fits my idea perfectly A while ago I ordered some models from Lost kingdom miniatures- https://lostkingdomminiatures.com/en/mi-cuenta and they finally arrived, and one of them is an archeopteryx like creature I'm planning to have sitting on one of the branches in the tree! - Reminds me of Sinrnithosaurus, this video shows them hunting. Along with that I also got some dinosaur skulls, a Bastiladon/ankylosaurus + some baby ones. The amount of detail on these models is just insane Also, I managed to find a candle lid, that if I spray black will work really well as a base for the model lizardmen RPG I'm doing is also going to start very soon. - http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/lizardmen-rpg.23902/
hey guys, I have been working on the mushrooms lately, but took the time to re-organise and redo my whole desk area . Spoiler: Mushrooms On top of that, some new paints arrived (early Christmas right!?), out of interest what brands do you guys use? I have found Vallejo to be very good, and citadel (but citadel is costly) I have had mixed results with The Army Painter ones, it seems a bit more watered down and hard to work with, so takes more coats to get a smooth finish. Spoiler: paints View attachment 63238 View attachment 63239 I also got a pack of new skinks with the paints, I wanted a fresh slate for the diorama, as all my others are a bit jumbled and messy.
I started my journey with Vallejo paints and so far I'm buying only those. I also noticed that Model Color >>>>>>>>>> Game Color in terms of coverage, feel and quality, with only minus being annoyingly long names such as Ger. Camo Light Green to deal with (instead of Goblin Green for example). Fun fact: Game Color is old Citadel range (that's what I heard in one of the hobby stores). I used few Citadel paints when I visited a friend and I would love to use them if they came with dropper bottles like Vallejo ones. Also how is Liquid Gold in terms of usage?
They're just the normal GW 'Barbed Bracken' I cut them up into smaller half sizes when I used them hanging off the tree. - https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Barbed-Bracken-2017. Im sure you can find another third party website that sells them for a price thats not utterly ridiculous.
Is that what they call it these days? Nice work. It looks awesome, those colors brighten it up nicely! Curious about the end result Gr, Imrahil
Sorry for leaving this thread to stagnate for a while, I have just been very busy lately and haven’t had as much time as I would like a painting. But, It was my birthday a couple of days ago and I was lucky enough to order an Airbrush and compressor, So in the next few months and weeks, I will probably trying to learn new skills with it and using it to get smooth colour blending on basic coats. Anyhow, I have started forming the basic shape of the canopy, as well as painting a few sample leaves... Spoiler: Leaves Despite the fact I have to do another 30 or so branches, it’s going to look pretty spicey once I get a canopy on it. Im really glad how the wooden base turned out, It's just the right size and gives the model a bit more hight.
Like your shelving setup (and the slann on your computer ) Looking forward to seeing these minis painted up!
Update: I have still been working on the tree leaves but due to a lack of time I haven’t made too much real progress, but I will have more time during the following weeks meaning I plan to finish the tree diorama. On another note, I was a bit bored of painting leaves so I spent a few hours cleaning up my Ahuatli (From lost kingdom miniatures) With alot of removing mold lines as well as plugging up gaps with greenstuff... A note to all those that are considering buying or already have bought from Lost kingdom miniatures, Their miniatures details are just incredible, But spines/weapons or anything without support is easy to break and very brittle. I Also built My Archyopterx that I am considering using up in the tree or for another diorama Spoiler: Ahuatli I also had some new ideas for possible future diorama's involving these models that could be very interesting: Spoiler: Future diorama? So, You would have an archaeopteryx trying to steal eggs/One of the Ahautli babies from the nest, The mother notices and begins to charge However, The mother would be unaware that another archaeopteryx ( I would need to buy some more) Is actually dragging away one of the babies whilst the they're distracted I could possibly have a third one ready to jump onto the mothers back or cause further distractions for the mother so that the others can be successful in raiding the nest. And Finally, After many awaited days weeks and many hours of research I finally decided on the airbrush I would buy for Christmas and birthday! I really hope to improve my skills with this over the following months and years . Hopefully, in the future I will be able to get some smooth colour transitions and other awesome techniques.
Huzzah for the airbrush! My only advice would be to temper your expectations, I got my airbrush over half a year ago and only am just beginning to get a bit of confidence using it. I'm sure you'll pick it up faster than I did tho Also poor lil Ahautli
A diorama setup like that would be pretty cool! I would suggest magnetizing the minis to the base if you go that route... so that way you can A) still use the minis in WH/AOS/insert-game-system-here and B) be able to display the minis in an EPIC way when they are on your shelf!
I have completed my first skink! He is armed with a jade moonstone club and a blowpipe. I went for a more traditional paint scheme but added a sort of transition from black to turquoise from the limbs, Using some of the Vallejo paints I recently got makes blending so much easier, the paints just give such a smooth coat. Obviously there are a few things I would change and clean up, But I think its decent for the first skink I have done in a while.
Sadly didn’t get as much done today, but still managed to do the shield of the next skink who will be armed with a javelin. Since boltspitters are the obvious choice, I have alot of spare javelins and since this skink is going on the diorama I thought it would make sense to give him two extra javelins to be stored on the shield, as it doesn't really make sense that a skink would only have one javelin, I mean after they throw it what are they support to do? Fight with their bare firsts? As for the shield, I did some shading from l ight to dark and then a design. The icon is from TW and is a faction logo/banner that I thought would look nice. Spoiler: Shield and Design Im not completely happy with the design but I think it will do after I draw some attention away from it when the skink is fully painted. ^ The skink above is the one I have already completed so wont be the one using the shield.
